Huntington Beach Lights Up For Brett Simpson

Currently sitting in the #6 slot on the ASP World Tour World Qualifying Series (WQS), Huntington Beach’s Brett Simpson is most likely going to be on the World Championship Tour next year.

After his big win at the 2009 Hurley US Open of Surfing and viewing this clip, do you think Brett’s got what it takes to make an impact on the 2010 ASP World Tour?

My opinion is this: If he keeps surfing the way he did at the US Open and in this clip, he’s got a damn good chance of doing well, especially at the beachbreaks on tour, like in France and Brazil. What do you think?

Sick footy Lieber, it would look better though if you set the iris on your camera.

  • stuu Says:

I think not. Doesn't matter though since he's apparently so good that HB lights up just for him now.

    got it wired!

gaudaska, brett simpson are gonna be the next nate curren on the tour… forgetable, and owen wright is gonna be the cream of the new class…

  • billy bob Says:

I think he'll be right there with Owen… he's got the full bag of trick with good flow. He also has done good in Hawaii. Go Brett. He's our brightest hope next to Dane. Don't think Pat G will do much though.

If there was an ASP Shit Hole Beachbreak Tour than id say yes. Still hope for the best

  • townboi Says:

he choked in hawaii last year… pat and brett both.

  • townboi Says:

  • hoofcovers Says:

    who dis fka

  • hoofcovers Says:

interesting both examples (hurley pro and this video) are at the same location which happens to be his home town

  • Lincoln Says:

surfs good. surfs really well in the pocket, up and down and above but needs to work his rails a bit more, his carves aren't looking quite CT yet…. plus the smarts he is getting from Kanga will hold him well next year. Should def requalify one would think, but stranger things have happened….

wouldn't write off Gudang yet either, he got some pretty impressive scores at the portugal event. higher then most seasoned CT'ers…

This is where I'd love to see the Cote brothers chime in with an opinion. Come on, boys - what's the verdict? One and done or in there with Owen? Get off your sponsor-supplied high horses and discuss with us.

Whats up with that trailing arm. He needs to tie that thing down or figure out how to make stop flailing if he ever hopes to get style points. HB is gay though and I would be utterly shocked if anything or anyone other than a whole lotta Hype came out of that town.

  • Bolt_Thrower Says:

I think Simpson has potential. I do think he needs to widen his stance so he can keep his speed up after he does a maneuver. He'll do a decent turn and then he losses speed (especially on his backside) and has to hop around to get his speed back up again.

Call me crazy, but I think Pat Gadauskas has what it takes to surf on the CT. He surfs with speed and aggression which translates into higher scores. I'm not saying his top ten material, but he should do alright on the CT.

Owen Wright is the new school Barton Lynch.

    kanga smarts?

like cairns suggesting that adriano is gonna win the world title this year, or in the next two years?

  • Droldog Says:

Let not forget theres a new tour next year big changes, One world champ did anyone think of that…
I think pat brett both will do very good…..

  • BTT Says:

    agreed

  • Lincoln Says:

    kanga smarts?

like cairns making a huge difference in Bretts performance this year and probably being the major catalyst for him qualifying. smarts in the sense of heat strategy, comp supprt, mental strength…

  • Santa Cruz 4 life Says:

Brett is as solid as they come. I have been in the water with him on many occasions and he blows up routinely! I hear his family is super supportive, Kanga is in his corner, and he has been training at DSC I believe (the same guys training Nate Yeomans, Shaun Ward, and many of the top groms in So. Cal). Solid surfing and great all around support are good ingredients for success! So yeah…he will do great on the WCT.
