World ranked no.9 Smith defeated world no.5 Damien Hobgood with a total heat score of15.56 to13.17 (combined two wave total out of a possible 20) in the final of the 6 star World Qualifying Series (WQS) earning USD20000 and 2500 WQS points.
Jordy Smith joins Hobgood as the other WCT surfer making it comfortably into the quarterfinals, knocking out the young Hawaiian talent, Dusty Payne and setting up what is sure to be a thrilling heat against the Australian wonder-kid Owen Wright.

The O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series launched in style today with Bluff Reef putting on a solid display of six to eight foot waves, showing the incredible potential of this area of Tasmania.
