Shortly before noon, along a stretch of beach known for good surf conditions, a fellow beachgoer pulled the surfer ashore, officials said.

Two surfers called 911 around 8:55 a.m. and said they had come into shore about 200 yards north of Seal Rock near the Cliff House, said Coast Guard Petty Officer John Eastman.
