No boaters, swimmers or surfers will be allowed in the West Waikiki Zone from 11 p.m. Friday, November 11 until 11 p.m. Friday, November 12.

Red Bull Rivals is a one day surf event pitting Oahu’s legendary shores, North Shore and South Shore, against each other. Top surfers from each shore will battle it out in a head-to-head surf competition for ultimate island bragging rights. To keep things fair, the event will again be held on the Eastside of Oahu at Sandy Beach, which is neutral territory.

Ten surfers for each team were chosen by the public via an online poll. Each shore’s team has to include at least one female surfer and two groms. A “ringer” will be allowed to be a part of each team and does not have to be disclosed until day of competition; the “ringer” can be any surfer from anywhere in the world. This past weekend the inaugural Red Bull took to the sunny and rippable peaks of Sandy Beach to witness the first ever Red Bull Rivals event pitting the best surfers from the South Shore of Oahu versus those from the North Shore.

After 13 years in Costa Rica, the Rabbit Kekai Longboard Classic is moving to Waikiki, the hometown of its namesake luminary, Albert "Rabbit" Kekai, August 23 to 29, 2009.
