Saying that he's "back on track after that weird timeout" surfer/photographer/journalist Rusty Long has returned to his San Clemente home after several weeks in a San Diego burn center.
Famed big wave surfer and all-around awesome person Rusty Long was severely burned recently while tending to his property in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
After three consecutive lay-days, the Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido roared back to life with firing six-to-eight foot barrels at Playa Zicatela to decide all but two of the event’s Quarterfinalists.
“We’ve only got small surf available and with plenty of time remaining in the waiting period there is no need to run the contest in poor conditions,” Contest Director Gary Linden said.
Day 3 of the Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido saw Hawaiian surfers lead the majority of the top-seeded heats while Mexican Dylan Southworth took the day’s top honors with a near perfect barrel.
The Puerto Escondido Pro has a waiting period from July 21 through 29 allowing event organizers the opportunity to choose the optimal conditions to run the 112 man event at the perilous wave of Playa Zicatela.
