Last night on the West Side of Oahu, invitees from the Quiksilver In Memory Of Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational hobnobbed with NFL Pro Bowl players at the Ihilani Hotel as the players and their families were welcomed to Hawaii for the annual gathering.
As if to thank the locals for putting up with the crowds, trash, and traffic created by the annual influx of visitors, the Banzai Pipeline fires as the tourists leave.

The 2009 Da Hui Backdoor Shootout opening ceremony was held last weekend at Ehukai Beach Park on the North Shore of Oahu in grand fashion as Hawaiian priests blessed the event and some of Pipeline's favorite son's got ready to rumble. The event has a waiting period from Jan 5-15.
Makua Rothman, Kala Alexander and Myles Padaca plus past competitors like Tom Pohaku Stone, Mel Pu'u and Bryan Amona were among the dozen surf industry people from Da Hui and Quiksilver to spread cheer and good wishes at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children.
Many of the world’s top professional surfers such as Kala Alexander, Makua Rothman, Myles Padaca, Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, etc. - will be on hand to participate in this annual event, as this is their way to give back to the community who is a part of their success in the world of professional surfing.
