In the heat before, Japanese surfer Masatoshi Ohno surfed the first tube of the competition to win the heat over the event’s top seed, Adriano de Souza, who was defeated early in his debut at the commemorative 25th edition of the Hang Loose Pro Contest.
Former Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Champion CJ Hobgood (Melbourne, FL), 30, clinched the first ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME event on the 2010 calendar, the Hang Loose Pro, at Brazil’s famed barrel of Fernando de Noronha, Brazil over fellow finalist Raoni Monteiro (Saquarema, BRA), 27.
The usual suspects, Slater, Parko, Fanning, CJ, et al light up round three of the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro in Brazil.
Santos, who is one of the best barrel riders in the world, finished the day with the title and the lead of 2009 ASP WQS ratings.
