The 2009 season will now host a slightly different format in qualifying for the coveted event. Since the North American team finished fifth overall at last year’s ASP World Junior Championships, the region is allotted five spaces to represent the nation. In previous years, ASP North America would send their top four surfers from the ASP North America Pro Junior series, plus the top seed on the ASP WQS.
North America's top finishers Tanner Gudauskas (San Clemente, CA), 20, and Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), 16, donated repeat third place finishes in the event, finding themselves amongst the highest pedigree of up-and-coming professional surfers.

With the New Year upon us, the countdown has begun to the commencement of the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships, deciding event of the undisputed ASP World Junior Champions, to be held at Sydney’s iconic North Narrabeen Beach in New South Wales, Australia from January 3 – 10, 2008.
