ASP World No. 2 Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) continued to push the envelope and revealing the depth of her surfing talent by smashing the scoreboard with near perfect scores to charge into the quarterfinals of the ASP Subaru Pro TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival in New Zealand on Friday April 29, 2011.
The Subaru Pro TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival, the third stop on the 2011 ASP Women’s World Title season, has been called ON this morning in contestable half-meter waves at the event’s back up site of Back Beach this morning.
The ASP Women’s World Title season will move from strength to strength this week with the commencement of the TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival in Taranaki, New Zealand from April 27 through May 1, 2011.
Carissa Moore (HAW), 18, current ASP Women’s World No. 1, bounced back from yesterday’s Round 1 loss in spectacular fashion, scoring two nine-point rides earning the highest heat total of the event and sending the young Australian wildcard, Nikki Van-Dijk (AUS), 16, packing.
The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, the opening events of the 2011 ASP World Title season, have been called on this morning, with Round 4 of the men’s event commencing at the primary venue of Snapper Rocks at 7:30am.
A lay day has been called for the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, but the swell projected to hit in the coming days could see the event finish in sensational surf.
“My head has healed fine and hopefully I'm in the final stages of my wrist healing,” Gilmore said. “It's been about six weeks, but I'm yet to have a surf as I haven't received the go ahead from the doctors. I'll be sure to have some extra support for my wrist whilst competing and it'll be fine. My goal this season is to change the drama that ended 2010 plus so many things have happened in the last few months I haven't even had the time to think about the tour, so I'm extremely excited to have almost a fresh beginning to my career at this point.”
Boasting a waiting period of February 26 through March 9, 2011, the Roxy Pro Gold Coast will feature the world’s best female surfers as they start their respective campaigns for the 2011 ASP Women’s World Title. Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 20, 2010 ASP Women’s World Runner-Up, is keen to get back into the competition singlet following an off season spent traipsing up and down the Eastern seaboard of Australia.
The 2011 ASP Top 17 have been determined, ushering in one of the most exciting fields of women surfers in the history of the sport.

After a three-month midyear break, the ASP Top 17 are flaring back into action with the sixth stop on the 2010 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Rip Curl Women’s Pro Portugal, from October 7 – 18, 2010.
For the first time in the event’s storied four-year history, the Movistar Peru Classic will whisk the ASP Top 17 away from the lengthy, sandbar lefts of Lobitos and Mancora in exchange for the punchy reefbreaks of San Bartolo in Lima.
