ASP Pro Junior Series
The ASP 1-Star Unsound Pro Junior, stop No. 6 of 9 on the 2011 men’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series, is set to host a 48-man field in Long Beach, New York with a waiting period from April 27 through 30, 2011. With a promising south swell expected to detonate New York’s shoreline later in the week, this year’s competitors have the potential to score classic New York beachbreak conditions.
The 49th edition of the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships, North America’s oldest surf contest, gains even more prestige as the Pro division is designated as an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 4-Star event and the Junior contest is upgraded to a 4-Star ASP Junior Qualifying event.
The inaugural Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior, an ASP 3-Star Men’s event running along with the ASP 2-Star Rexona Girls Pro Junior, saw the crowning of local heroes Maxime Huscenot (St Gilles, REU), 19, and Joanne Defay (St Leu, REU), 17, both claiming this year’s ASP European Junior Series opening event in great fashion.
The inaugural ASP 4-Star Rob Machado Seaside Pro Junior presented by Hurley, Reef and Whole Foods Market is slated to host America’s top male and female under-21 surfing talent at San Diego county’s Seaside Reef on April 22 and 23, 2011 and will play a vital role in surfers’ qualification campaigns for the 2011 ASP World Junior Tour.
Launching the 2011 ASP European Junior Series with one of the year’s biggest events points and prizemoney wise, the Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior will see Round 1 of competition hit the water after the 10 AM check-in decides about the day’s schedule.
The Rob Machado Seaside Pro Junior presented by Reef and Hurley is now the only ASP Pro Junior 4-star competition in San Diego. The event, which will commence at Seaside Reef on April 22-23, 2011, will also include a Super Hero’s themed charity golf tournament at The Crossing at Carlsbad on Monday, April 18, 2011.
Surfers competing on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series are out to finish atop their regional ratings to qualify for the prestigious ASP World Junior Tour and the Nike 6.0 Unsound Pro Junior’s ASP Grade-4 points will play a vital role towards their overall rating.
Gieselman relied on above-the-lip surfing to stamp his authority on the field with a variety of massive aerials on the steep Lowers lefthanders to take out a remarkable Quarterfinals heat victory over international prodigy Gabriel Medina (Maresias, BRA), 17, who was a Round 1 standout, and Hawaiian Granger Larsen (Lahaina, HI), 20.
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME 6.0 Lowers Pro is set to start tomorrow, May 4, 2010 at the iconic cobblestone pointbreak of Lower Trestles. The event will host a mass of ASP World Title surfers as well as the world’s finest up-and-comers as they battle for the heap of ratings points on offer to solidify themselves amongst the global elite.
The venue for the inaugural Billabong Pro Junior Asia is famous Bali reef-break, Keramas. It will be an elite grade 5 rated ASP event with USD 25,000 in prize money. It is a fully fledged international competition, with surfers from counties such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia, The Phillipines and Malaysia taking part.
Hawaiians Tyler Newton (Kauai, HI) 19, and Macy Mullen (Milileni, HI), 30, took the day’s top honors by posting the highest scores in men’s competition.
Matt Costa (Waianae, HI), 16, stamped his authority as an early round standout in Ezekiel Pro Junior competition when he blasted the highest single-wave score of the event, a near perfect 9.60 out of 10 en route to his Round 2 heat victory.
The 2010 ASP North America Pro Junior Series is set to kickoff the first of eight events slated for the men’s calendar with the ASP Grade-3 Ron Jon SI Pro presented by Skullcandy and also marks the first of four women’s events with the ASP Grade-2 Skullcandy Junior Pro, with both events slated to hit the iconic break of Sebastian Inlet. The event holds a waiting period from March 11-14, 2010 and is currently expecting to run on the first two available days.
Cory Arrambide (Ventura, CA), 19, claimed his second Oakley Pro Junior presented by Heritage Surf and Sport title yesterday.
