(Los Angeles, CA) August 6 , 2009 — In celebration of the launch of the boardshorts and vending machine at The Standard, Downtown LA, Quiksilver in conjunction with Will Pennartz of The Surf Gallery and Stefan Jeremias, co-producer of “Echo Beach” the film, have curated an art show at The Standard, Downtown LA destined to gather a creative collection of the fashion , surf , + design population.
The show, titled “Echo Beach Retrospective 1978-1982: Surf Culture Art Exhibition,” pays tribute to the golden era of surfing, the period that produced the retro designs that inspired The Standard Boardshorts by Quiksilver series. The first vending machine will be located on the rooftop pool deck starting August 8th at The Standard, Downtown LA. The boardshorts are also available online atSHOPTHESTANDARD.COM and at The Standard Boutiques.
Kristopher Tom founder of Thevintagesurfboard.com who specializes in early to mid 80s vintage surfboards says “I’m really excited to participate in such an awesome collaboration with Quiksilver and The Surf Gallery…it’s great to be able to open up my collection and share these boards with an audience who can appreciate them.” Some of the boards being featured in the exhibition include a Lightning Bolt by Tom Eberly, a Brian Bulkley Quad, Early 80’s Randy French Quad as well as a mid-80s near perfect colorful Town & Country and more.
The Special opening reception for the “Echo Beach Retrospective 1978-1982: Surf Culture Art Exhibition,” will take place Thursday, August 13th from 7-10pm.
