Sydney, August 2009: Boost Mobile gets it Wright
Owen Wright, easily the most exciting junior surfer on the planet, has become the most recent addition to the talented Boost Mobile Team, along with his three siblings Tyler, Kirby and Michael. The Wright family joins the likes of Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, Garrett Parkes and Sally Fitzgibbons on the Boost Mobile Surf Team. Owen Wright, the current Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Australasian Pro Junior Series ratings leader, has not only won the last five ASP Australasian events but has also completed an incredible run through the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS).
Owens results see him superbly positioned at number three on the WQS ratings and staring at ASP World Tour qualification for 2010 following his enormous win at the Six Star PRIME rated Sri Lankan Airlines Pro last month. From death defying barrel rides at Teahupoo or Pipeline to awesome aerial’s in beach breaks combined with an array of stylish power moves, Owen Wright is the complete surfing package and is regarded globally as the most exciting emerging surfer.
BOOST MOBILE’s Business Development Manager Anthony Torr is stoked with the partnership; “Owen won the 2008 BOOST MOBILE airshow, he’s a superb surfer with a polished progressive aerial attack while Kirby, Tyler and Michael are all surfers rapidly heading to the top of the sport, for BOOST MOBILE, it’s an exciting partnership.”
“I can’t recall a company that has completed a blanket sponsorship of an entire family. But after meeting with Robert (father and manager) we quickly realized that we were like minded and the family would be a perfect fit for our future marketing strategies” said Anthony.
At 19 Owen is being cast as the next big thing in surfing and judging by the way his siblings are performing already it might well be genetic…Tyler, 15, made surfing history last year when she defeated Silvana Lima in the finals of the Beachley Classic and became the youngest surfer ever to win an ASP World Tour event. She out surfed reigning ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 20, Jacqueline Silva (BRA), 29, and Amee Donohoe (AUS), 27, en route to her Finals berth with Lima.
Kirby, 17, has been selected for team Australia 2009. In 2008 she scored some solid results with a second in the Osmosis Pro Junior at Gunnamatta and a 3rd at the Motorola Pro Junior at Newcastle. At just 12, Michael is already making his mark on Aussie Surfing. He took out the 12 years and under division of the 2009 Rip Curl Grom Search at Cronulla. He has also cemented a spot for himself in the Surfing Far North Coast team after an impressive display at the Fantastic Noodles Far North Coast Regional Junior Surfing Titles. He will go on to compete in the Arnette NSW Junior titles at the end of July. With the whole family consistently travelling, keeping in contact is vital and the sponsorship deal with Boost Mobile is beneficial to the Wright family. “Our family partnership with BOOST MOBILE will make travelling just that much easier as it’s essential to stay in touch while we’re away” said Owen Wright.
