O’ahu, HI (December 1, 2008) – The Mauli Ola Foundation, a public non-profit organization dedicated to promote education and awareness of genetic diseases, is pleased to announce its upcoming golf tournament to aid individuals with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This event is dedicated to raising funds for research and future participatory events for these young patients. The event will be held on December 5th, 2008 at 10:00 AM. The venue is the impressive Turtle Bay Resort Palmer Course in O’ahu, Hawaii. Professional surfer and V.P. of Public Relations Kala Alexander states, “Come join the boys for a great day of golf for a positive cause. Anything we can do to raise awareness about this amazing connection between CF and surfing is personally rewarding. It’s about helping these kids, so let’s do it.”
Then on Dec. 7th at Haleiwa Beach Park the Mauli Ola Foundation (MOF) will be holding a CF Surf Day. Professional surfers including Bruce Irons, Makua Rothman, Dusty Payne and others will be giving a free surf lesson to anyone with Cystic Fibrosis from 10 AM to noon, provided by Uncle Brian Surratt’s Surf School.
For these events, MOF is teaming up with Ambry Genetics, Da Hui and Volcom in a united effort to further the quest for enhanced treatments. Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease affecting the lungs by blocking airways, leading to serious lung problems. Extensive clinical trials have clarified that inhaling saltwater mist has a powerful effect on the lungs; re-hydration of the lungs allows CF patients to more easily eliminate the damaging mucus.
James Dunlop, founder of Mauli Ola Foundation and co-founder/Operations Manager of Ambry Genetics, consistently seeks innovative ways to support the needs of those affected by Cystic Fibrosis. His goal in this effort is to “bring the joy of surfing to those who have never had the opportunity to experience the freedom and confidence gained from surfing, while improving their challenges in leading a healthy life.”
