HALEIWA, OAHU, HAWAII - OCTOBER 28, 2009 - With consistently strong recent performances and a quiet determination, ASP World No. 4 Bede Durbidge is looking to finish his 2009 WCT with a flourish in Hawaii.

Securing a well-fought runner-up finish yesterday at the ‘09 Rip Curl Pro Search (Supertubos, Portugal), Durbo came from behind against Joel Parkinson in the semis before finishing second to Mick Fanning in the final. Finishing no lower than 5th in each of the past 4 ASP World Tour events, Durbidge turned in some stand-out surfing throughout the event, hinting at more to come heading into Hawaii for the Vans Triple Crown, which he won in 2007.

“I’m stoked to get second but you always want to win,” Durbidge told the ASP. “I have that little bit of disappointment. It was a great event for me and I won some really big heats so the confidence is really high.”

With much of the hype surrounding the Fanning/Parkinson race for the ASP title, Durbidge remains focused on his performance - a focus that certainly has helped earn him a place on the World Tour for 5 consecutive years, finishing a career-high second to Kelly Slater in 2008.

At 26 years young, Durbidge’s growing experience among and as one of the elite surfers today continues to build to his advantage.

“I love Hawaii and I haven’t had my win this season yet - so I’m definitely keen to put one away during the final event.”
