Tuesday, October 21st 2008: Strawberry Farms Golf Club, the premier golf club in Orange County, California; hosted the Tim Brown Invitational Golf Tournament presented by PacSun. The Tim Brown Invitational Golf Tournament (TBIGT) is a fun day of golf benefiting the IOC-recognized governing body of the sport of surfing in America, Surfing America; and The PacSun USA Surf Team, the official surf team of the United States.

The Strawberry Farms Golf Club’s Irvine, Southern California location has proved to be the ideal venue for the TBIGT once again; boasting state of the art amenities and service for the 144 players, gorgeous terrain and sunny 80 degree conditions. The day began with a heavily bid-upon putting contest and silent auction. On the course, players encountered festive easy-up tents loaded with free prizes and goodies from hole sponsors including Bud Light, Earthpack, Athleticism, Sportsnet, ESPN, Verizon Wireless, ASG, Rip Curl, Soleo, Sambazon, Power/Balance, Independent Trading Co., McKenna Volkswagen, Liquid Graphics, VeeV Vodka and Oakley. As well, a team of beautiful volunteers drove the course throughout the day collecting money for an end-of-tourney raffle with spectacular prizes including an iPod docking station and an INT surfboard. Generous donations also included: Jabra, Universal Ear, Nike, Globe, Brixton, Cole Surfboards, Indo Boards, Volcom, Element, Billabong, Snowboarder Magazine, Robb Havassy, and Simple Green.

The conclusion of the all-day TBIGT brought participants to a backyard party at Strawberry Farms with live musical entertainment by Deepwater, professional massages, homemade brownies and the infamous In-N-Out Truck. Several special guests made appearances, including 9-time World Champion Kelly Slater. Surf legend and industry leader Peter Townend bore the title MC throughout the evening festivities, leading the entire course into a “Happy Birthday” croon for guest of honor Dr. Tim Brown at the conclusion of the event. First place was awarded to the Gary Cohee group; Second place the Brian Lewis group from Quiksilver and the Tried and Died award to the Stacie Perry group of PacSun.

All in all, over $11,000 was raised to support Surfing America and The PacSun USA Surf Team. To this, Executive Director of Surfing America Mike Gerard had to say:

“Surfing America is extremely grateful for the tremendous support from Dr. Tim Brown and his annual TBIGT presented by PacSun. The organization has come a long way in the last few years and results on the world stage are showing it. Developing tomorrow’s champions is an important initiative. Dr. Tim, PacSun, and all who participate in the TBIGT are giving back to youth surfing in a very big way; and Surfing America is truly honored and privileged to receive their assistance.”

Sincere gratitude to everyone who supported and participated in the 2008 event. All donations, prizes and efforts are vastly appreciated by all parties involved. Thanks for making it a great day, see you next year!
