LOWER TRESTLES, California (Tuesday, September 15, 2009) – Clean three-to-four foot surf groomed by light offshore winds greeted event organizers this morning, prompting the call for the completion of Round 3 of the Hurley Pro Trestles to begin at 8am.
“We still have some pretty fun surf on offer this morning so we’ll be getting underway at 8am,” Pat O’Connell, Hurley Pro Trestles Contest Director, said. “The idea is to complete Round 3 so we’ll have one full day remaining, and we can cherry pick the last day we want to finish on. We’ll be completing Round 3 before running the expression session today.”
Some of the most highly-anticipated match-ups of the event are on today including current ASP World No. 1 Joel Parkinson (AUS), 28, up against event wildcard Rob Machado (USA), 36, and reigning nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 37, battling another wildcard in Brett Simpson (USA), 24.
Surfline, official forecaster of the Hurley Pro Trestles, is calling for today’s combination swell to dissipate throughout the next couple of days before tracking some southwest energy later in the week.
First up this morning will be California wunderkind Dane Reynolds (USA), 24, against Ben Dunn (AUS), 23, in Heat 7 of Round 3.
