The O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro Presented By Ron Jon Is Off Today

SEBASTIAN INLET, Florida (Monday, January 12, 2009) - The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 4-Star O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro presented by Ron Jon is off today due to a lack of swell.

The O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro is the first event of the 2009 ASP WQS season, with all ASP WQS campaigners striving towards qualification for the coveted ASP World Tour the following year. The event also marks the largest East Coast contest of the season, drawing some of the finest surfing talent to its shore in search of the valuable ratings points of offer towards qualification for the coveted ASP Dream Tour.

With seven available days for the contest, event coordinators have decided to call competition off today due to today’s lack of swell. With some potential swell on the horizon as the week progresses, officials feel that today’s lay day will set up the best schedule to utilize the potential swell.

“We’re not going to run today due to the lack of swell,” contest director Bill Hartley said. “We’re expecting to see an increase in swell throughout the week and want to wait for improved conditions to start the event.”

Event coordinators will reconvene tomorrow, January 13, at 7:30am for a possible 8am start.

The O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro presented by Ron Jon will run from January 12-18, 2009. For all of the LIVE action log on to www.oneillsipro.com
