Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang Bali

August 12, 2009: - - Padang Padang, Bali — The waves remained small in Bali Tuesday, but all that should chage dramatically by week’s end. Contest directors for the 2009 Rip Curl Cup Invitational at Padang Padang have switched the official event status from red to yellow, or ‘high alert.’

Currently there is a nice low pressure system forming in the southernmost regions of the Indian Ocean. So far it’s been tracking on an ideal northerly course to potentially send massive amounts of southwest swell towards the Indonesian Archipelago. Right now the estimated time of arrival is looking like Friday, August 14, with the peak hitting over the weekend.

Tides for Padang are also looking ideal during this time, with medium tides all day. Contest directors are eyeing this storm closely and the 32 contestants for this year’s Rip Curl Cup have all been put on notice for a possible Friday morning start. Many of the 16 international invitees are already in Bali or are preparing to book flights. For now, it’s on when it’s on…

WTF sort of line-up is this? Marlon Gerger, Bruno Santos and Ryan Turner? Seriously? Quiksilver’s Good Wave in Durban sh*ts on this, and that’s just local guys.

hahaha, are you serious stu? bruno santos is a teahupoo winner. he won all the way through the trials and then the main event. pretty sure he’s got his left hand barrel credentials. marlon gerber is a sick bali local. kid shreds. ryan turner umm…just watch second thoughts. his indo credentials are unimpeachable. have fun in your wetsuit kid! bali/indo is the best.

Ive just got back home here on Kangaroo Island to epic waves after a trip to Bali.I surfed Padand Sat.Aug 1st in the arvy at about 4/5ft with 6 surfers and 3 Portugese Boogy Boarders.I did 9 trips to Bali prior to the bomb and Padang was the wave I lived for. This trip was the first since, and Im a bit pissed off. Boogy boarders with no moral surf edicate have taken over .Paddling well inside only to call out on every wave ,with their fins covering so much ground they make sure they get every wave.Get on the line boys!Anyway I had a 6am morning surf to my self next day until the crosshore came up,and a few barrols. Not sure if id head that way again due to crowds even though I hit Chungu each morning and Ulus each arvy.I HOPE PADANG PUMPS For the comp!
