Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of Del Mar’s Alex Capozza…

As reported on www3.signonsandiego.com: DEL MAR – Gray, overcast skies reflected the somber mood at a Sunday morning memorial and paddle-out ceremony honoring a 17-year-old Torrey Pines High School student killed in a car crash.

A crowd estimated at 700 to 750 gathered on the grass at Powerhouse Park and listened as friends recounted memories of Alex Capozza, whose life was cut short a week ago when the car he was riding in with four other students crashed in Rancho Santa Fe.

“We are here to honor Alex’s water spirit and connect him to the ocean one last time,” speaker Britt Galland said.
Galland, whose son was friends with the teen, said he was humbled to be asked to participate in the special send-off. He said his heart was broken for the family.

Alex was in a car that was traveling on La Granada near Rambla de las Flores about 1:45 a.m. last Sunday when it went out of control and overturned. The driver faces vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving charges and is being held at Juvenile Hall.
