A U.S. Coast Guard boat this morning rescued an inexperienced surfer who was unable to ride the waves back to San Francisco’s coast.

Two surfers called 911 around 8:55 a.m. and said they had come into shore about 200 yards north of Seal Rock near the Cliff House, said Coast Guard Petty Officer John Eastman.

The surfers said their friend was an inexperienced surfer who was unable to make it to shore on his own, Eastman said.

“He was just offshore and was having trouble riding the waves in, so he was stranded,” Eastman said.

A Coast Guard utility boat was launched from Station Golden Gate and had the surfer picked up and dropped off by about 9:15 a.m.

Eastman said the man was uninjured.
