While the weather down here in Tahiti has taken a turn for the better (it’s perfectly sunny and not much wind), the surf has yet to pick up…at least out front at Teahupo‘o. Down the way, or should I say down the reef, from Teahupo‘o, a secret spot that was only discovered last year was a solid six-to-eight foot yesterday while Teahupo‘o was maybe waist high. “Seran Wraps” as it was named by Bruce Irons last year, was responsible for breaking two of Parko’s boards yesterday and scared the shit out of this French dude who nearly got caught inside by a rogue eight-footer. Oh yeah, Bruce named it “Seran Wraps” because the water is so clear down that way that it looks like the stuff you’d wrap your leftovers in…

Tonight is the 3rd annual “Megaboom” soiree that the Teahupo‘o Surf Club and the locals are psyching! Over 500 people are expected to show up, making it the biggest party of the year here in the sleepy little town of Teahupo‘o. I’ll let you know how it went on the next update.

It seems like we’ve been down here for ages, yet guys like Kelly Slater, Parko, Mick Fanning, and CJ Hobgood have yet to don a contest jersey! That’s right, we’re not even done with round two of the Billabong Pro Teahupo‘o and already people are leaving town, not this kid though—I’m in to win it! Look for the contest to run Monday and Tuesday and watch it live at www.billabongpro.com.

Anyway, I’m off to Seran Wraps…you’ll know if it’s too gnarly for me if you see video of the secret spot later!—JC
