Spectacular Disaster Gets More Than Expected In Georgia

Being gluttons for punishment, we decided to go back to St. Augustine after the Jax Beach premiere and celebrate Gabe Kling’s birthday in rare form. Shit got weird, beers were sprayed across the dancefloor, hundreds of dollars wasted on booze, boobs were exposed and madness ensued.
The next morning, we decided to forgo all the hype and phone calls from frothed out surfers about Hurricane Bill and it’s “perfect track” by sticking to our guns and carrying on with our Savannah Georgia premiere. Hungover minds and fried nerves, our drive the next morning was full of concern - we had no idea if anyone in Tybee Island, GA had gotten word of the movie premiere and we were possibly missing out on waves in the Caribbean. Low expectations in hand, we stuck to our guns and were greeted with playful little waves at Tybee pier and the raddest, most surf stoked country lineup we’ve seen in a while.

To make things even better, our fears of throwing a party for ourselves were squashed when we discovered the entire lineup already knew about our premiere the next night. In a small island town, news of pro surfers in an O’Neill RV spread like wildfire and before we knew it, the local ABC News station had come out to interview us and we were on the front page of the Savannah paper. Suffice it to say, the premiere was one of our biggest turnouts of the tour so far; a couple hundred people piled into Huc-A-Poos bar and restaurant for unreal pizza and the movie being projected on an outside wall on the patio. When we say that the whole town was there, it might be closer to the truth than it sounds: hell, the Mayor introduced the movie. Apparently he was trading waves on the north side of the pier next to Benny and Zander all afternoon!
Thanks to Benjy Blackmon, Mike, Tara Mosley, Eric and everyone at Huc-A-Poo’s for showing us a truly great couple of days and opening our eyes to our favorite new Georgia town! I think we’re going to make another movie just so we can come back and do it all again on Tybee Island next year!
