Point Mugu 2nd Annual Surf Contest Goes Off!

Surfers from all over California assembled August 22-23 at the 2nd Annual NBVC Point Mugu surf contest. Dane Reynolds, Adam Virs, Noah Erickson, Christian Fletcher, Luke Davis, and Sean Hayes were just a few of the surfers who gained access to the normally-closed-to-civilians military base. Their trek onto the heavily guarded base was well worth it as they were greeted with head high barreling peaks surfed with only a few other people in the water.

funny how the base opened up after 9/11…. the second most secretive base on the coast with top clearance research going on right next to the seawall.

What a joke that the military would invite THE ENTIRE WEST COAST to their “TOP SECRET” facility, and then COMPLETELY SHUT THE PLACE DOWN the day after the comp finishes. FUCK YOU BASE SECURITY !

I wish I was, then I wouldn’t have to work my full time job.
And I know you want me to go back to the south bay, because thats where I grew up, but I’ve lived and worked in Ventura County for over 10 years. It’s not my fault I didn’t grow up here… for that you can blame my parents. Just as you grew up where you did because your parents chose that area.
Difference is I moved out at 16 because I wanted to be somewhere else.
But we don’t need to have that discussion here.

Yes, Dane Reynolds did surf during the expression session, along with Kalani Robb, Pascal Stansfield, Christian Fletcher, and Sean Hayes. It was a treat to watch the speed and air time these guys pulled!
Hater - What a joke that you can’t appreciate that the public was welcomed in a controlled environment with plenty of security. The rest of the year the break is for those with authorized access and guests - period. Get over it and don’t blame the people doing their jobs…
It was a great event, with great music, and everyone having a good time mixing it up with the troops and visitors.

Both of the buildings next to the sea wall that you speak of have been decommissioned along with the F-14 they used to test there.
They are both currently being gutted. No one works there anymore.

The place could use lots more cleansing of riff-raff like you. Hope you enjoyed yourself and your crappy $100 heat you obviously got smoked in. Now things can get back to normal. Did I mention there were only 5 people out all day yesterday?

Congrats to Noah! I used to surf Mugu with your Dad. What an awesome place to surf. With his and Kevin thornslys help I learned to surf there in the 80s…BTW only saw 1 shark in ten years there. But I saw two orca once, and had a whale surface near enough to freak me out.

Yeah MWR! Such a great event!! Kudos to Fred Morgan,Kent Blankenship, Dan Alpern and the rest of the crew. Now that the contest is long gone…cant wait for task force to start implementing the new regulations the Xo signed off such as 100% id check (pulling people out of the water)…. heard they're even kickin contractors that work on the base out of there. Old woman (47) wanna-be surfer wanting to learn the surf here. Only did a little out at the North Shore. Active duty mil. Would love to get together with a mil group that surfs Mugu and could give some pointers on where to surf longboard on the area, and how not to crash and die.
