Australian surfing celebrity Koby Abberton is serving a three-day sentence for getting in a fight with an off-duty police officer in Honolulu.
The 30-year-old pleaded no contest today to the misdemeanor assault charge.
Abberton was handcuffed and escorted to Oahu Community Correctional Center to serve his term.
Prosecutors had sought a six-month sentence. But District Judge Ray Graulty says Abberton took responsibility for his actions.
A city prosecutor said afterward Abberton got off easy.
Abberton was given a suspended sentence in Australia two years ago after he was convicted of lying to police about his knowledge of the August 2003 Sydney killing of underworld figure Anthony Hines.

My 98 yr old granny can surf better in her muumuu. You suck on small waves! The cop was breaking up the fight, not brawling. Koby girl waylaid the cop. He got put in confinement ’cause he was so scared. Hawaiian girls can kick his aussie ass back down under, and then some.
