The Coconut Wireless: Flat Day Fun On The North Shore

Schooling fish in Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu. Photo: Flynn Novak
The North Shore is it’s own little world and can get a bit overwhelming at times. Tension (and testosterone) levels rise with the anticipation of the coming winter swells and everyone tends to act a bit more hostile to one another. Anxiety and claustrophobia set in when this small area starts filling up with visiting bodies—especially when there are no waves to retreat to.
Last week, North Shore locals experienced a flare of the new winter, but this past week went back into the summer doldrums of calm conditions and flat surf. In times like these, if we don’t have an outlet, it’s common for people to lose the plot—but lucky for me, I know that the North Shore has much more to offer then just firing surf. That said, a couple of friends and I decided to jump in the water on a hot day to simmer down and here’s what we encountered…
About the video: TransWorld SURF’s Coconut Wireless correspondent Flynn Novak shot this with a new Olympus Stylus waterproof camera at scenic Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu. For the record: While this clip is s stony as it gets, Flynn doesn’t dabble in the pakalolo.

Nice videoblog Flynn, makes me homesick, even for the flat days! Hope you do some lineup interviews when there's waves. I could probably help you filter out some of the noise from the audio if you need.

'Townboi' if you know how to read you would have noticed that the video and report was about 'last week' when the waves were practically flat on the North Shore. I've noticed you've been negative towards Flynn's words, never mind that
