Clay Marzo is bringing a whole new bag of tricks to the game. Does he have what it takes to make the World Tour? Yes. The criteria in judging has been changing as surfers are starting to bust airs and other non-traditional tricks a lot more frequently. This offbeat path of maneuvers will favor Clay and can definitely make him a strong contender for the World Tour. Not sure if he’s going to win the Pipe Masters in the near future. I think winning the Pipe Masters is a whole new ball game. You definitely gotta put in your time to really have Pipe dialed in. I think he will give it a good run though.

Lastly, I need that wetsuit. I’ve been doing these giveaways for some time, and would love to wear a wetsuit that doesn’t have a hole in it. Sweet.

  • Christopher Says:

Damn dude. I just wrote an essay and some error occurred when I pressed Submit Comment.

Clay Marzo is one talented individual. He is among an elite group that is pushing surfing to a whole new level. He definitely can make the World Tour, especially because of his raw talent and the balls he has to take on some gnarly waves. Pipe Masters in my opinion is much harder to win than obtaining a spot on the World Tour. Not only do you need to have the balls to take off super deep, but you definitely need to put in your time with Pipe. The locals definitely have the advantage and the competition will be much more stiff when trying to win Pipe. But in the end, Pipe owns you, not the other way around.

Hook me up with that wetsuit please. Mine has a hole in it, and the water isn’t getting any warmer. Aloha.

  • Jay Says:

With marzo's crazy flexibility and inability to fall hes going places. His spur of the moment surfing style is so unique and quick, its amazing to watch. He'll make it alright, just wait and enjoy the show.

  • Sean Says:

Clay will indefinitely continue his progress within the competition aspect of surfing. It seems that once he learns the reigns of competition he will have more desire to win contests. When this happens, his potential seems endless. But a continuity that will remain within him are his ridiculous video parts and pushing the progression of surfing. Maybe he will land the first 540! I hope he will also continue to inspire people of autistic qualities like he has done in the past.

  • Apryl Says:

There is no way that Marzo won't win big soon - his sick style, flexibility, and creativity is unmatched. He'll make it on the World Tour sooner rather than later since his buzz is growing and sponsors and contests will have no choice but to make sure he's got what he needs to compete. Go Clay!

  • Clayton Krater Says:

I would be stoked to watch him compete against the worlds best. I truly feel he has what it takes to do so. Whether or not he makes the world tour or not, he will deffinately go on to do big things and continue to inspire people through his surfing. He has a true raw talent that just comes naturally and makes his surfing look so smooth and stylish. I truly feel he has what it takes to win the pipe masters and cant wait for that day to come.

  • Todd Says:

Clay has already accomplished more in his career then anyone at his age considering he suffers from asbergers and still being able to surf the way that he does is just incredible. His flashy style and go for it attitude will most definitely enable him to make the tour. As far a pipe masters and competing on tour goes, as long as Clay can continue to progress as he has, nothing will stop this kid from doing big things in the near future.

  • Juan Says:

We are witnessing a new generation of surfers, in which Clay Marzo without any doubt is the Kelly Slater of it.

  • hoofcovers Says:

World tour? I don't see it. Pipe masters? Guarantee if he puts his mind to it. Marzo is a barrel freak like Bruno Santos. Hurling himself over a couple ledges at pipe is nothing in comparison to his personal challenges with asperger's syndrome. Marzo is a like a cat, always landing with his feet glued to da board, no matter how ledgy da wave. Pipe, yes. WT, no.

  • soup Says:

Clay will undoubtedly go far. His blitzkreig backhand and his unending flexibility will bring back a sense of purpose and direction(vertical or slightly inverted) to the disenchanted base of the Republican Party. His inspirational oratorical skills will help him solidify support for his candidacy and the first ever committed air out the back of a 10 foot pipe bomb landing flawlessly will have launched his campaign into a new era of surfing. Slabbing Aerial Theatrics. Clay 4 Prez

  • Mateo Says:

First off, I don't think anyone can predict Clay Marzo's future. Clay Marzo is Clay Marzo. He is going to be whoever he wants to be, and no one can change that. Does he have the ability to make the World Tour? Yes. Will he one day win the Pipe Masters? I hope so. For anyone that has seen his documentary "Just Add Water," they understand his raw, natural abilities. Clay is not just an innovator when it comes to skills, he is revolutionizing a new generation of surfers. When Andy Irons, Occy, and Kelly Slater all say that Clay Marzo is the best surfer in his age hands down and that he is performing tricks no one else can, then not much more needs to be said about whether or not Clay is going to be "something" in the surfing world; he will be one of the greatest.

    ***** SURF NEWS UPDATE *******
Clay Marzo, in an unprecedented act of concern for the oceans we live in, "denounces contest surfing" as a whole.
Marzo's plan to create a "New Tour" consisting solely of environmentaly friendly surfers, like Rasta & Machado….. WTF??? … Never mind… yes on Pipe Masters, no-one steps off the ledge like he does nor has the moves, and WT?…if he want's it, he can get there "easy" with his style & power, just gotta set a plan and execute!

Dude first off i dont own a crystal ball, bud but if I did dable in that sort of thing heres how it'd go. Clay will rip it up the rest of this year and do things every man dreams of for one he'll be seeing Megan Fox and most likely be waxing that. He'll win pipe masters but after that Clay will feel he's reached the pinacle of the modern surfing spectrum (if that''s even the right way to use that word) and pull a Dave Chappell and just totally fall off the map. He's so badass he realizes all this fame is makin him be a total chode so he decides to live in Morocco and shred with all the crazy arabs. After the public discovers where he's at he'll drop a bomb video with all the footage from Morocco and other lo key spots and then qualify for the tour but not before him and Megan tie the knot.

  • Doug Says:

am by no means an expert in the surf world, however after watching a clip of just add water I became extremely motivated. I just started surfiing myself and at age 38Im here to say it is never to late. Clay is the reason I began to surf. Watching him surf gets me so ….and I never used the word before STOKED! I have heard people say that word but never really knew the meaning. After surfing my self and catching my first wave I truely know the meaning. He has a magnetic personality and performs amazing feats in the water. As a surfer he has endless potential. He will definety win the World Tour one day as well as the Pipe masters. With time and expeirence he will just get better. I cant wait to tell peope I told you so!

  • DGmaui Says:

Marzos gonna be ripping nutser with new creative ideas. everythings gonna get nutser. hes gonna go mach 80, faster and faster. he made a sick video with the sickest part, and showed everyone what hes got. now (with the new format) hes gonna get to the CT and just prove it, show everyone he can be
    World Champ, "Smoke Guys."

  • clyde bobo Says:

Clay's future: He will quit surfing and work in a bank in customer service. He will sit in a cubical in Ohio, calling people to collect on bills hour after hour, occasionally looking at surfline wistfully. Then one day, he will strip, walk naked down the isle to the door, down the street to Lake Erie, and will swim the Saint Lawrence Seaway, Atlantic Ocean, Panama Canal, then on to Hawaii. Once there, he will win the Pipemasters, becoming both a hero and prophet, creating a revolution where even Osama Bin Laden will dream of getting tubed. Heavy…

  • Ollie Says:

Clay one of the GREATEST free-surfers of all time. Yep I said it. His moves are bigger than any other pro and he can land pretty much anything! However Clay has a diease called ausburgas and severe from of autism. He cant recognize emotions and cannot handle the pressure of contests therefore: Clay will probely not make the WCT even though he is better than most of the guys on tour. But Clay will probely be invited to a lot of quicksilver (his sponsor) WCT events and will likly win. So i would say Clay will win Quik Pro In Gold Coast if invited, He is eventually be invited to the Eddie and win that. And through his early career (now) clay will win a lot of WQS events that his sponsor own. Clay will perform much more in surf movies because he is a free surfer.

  • Grayson Says:

Clay will not make the WCT. He is too unfocused in contest surfing. He will also not win Pipe Masters. I believe he will be like a Ry Craike. He will be a pure free surfer doing a couple of contests on the side. He could maybe when a few WQS events here and there but I don't believe he will make the WCT. He could maybe be a wildcard in a few events though.

  • Craig Says:

Clay is going to win the QS at Lowers in the next two years and then from their he will either win at The Quiksilver Pro France or Hurley Pro Trestles as a wildcard. Just think about it, Clay can throw tail all over the place, get sick barrels (France), and do insane airs. Furthermore, he won NSSA Nationals at lowers with two perfect tens and gets insane barrels all around Maui so with the progression of his surfing, he will be able to pull off a couple good results as wildcards. Finally, Clay thrives without pressure which is exactly what wildcards have: no pressure.

  • Emmett Says:

Clay will qualify for the WCT and then win at J-bay and Lowers where he can show his style and flare to the world. These will be his first wins then he will start dominating at places like Pipeline and Peniche. Then on to win a world title. With his progressive surfing he will be able to go places no surfer has before and maybe even start landing tricks like 540s. He is already starting to win big competitions like Puerto Escondido, so he will soon dominate the WCT

  • Nick Says:

CLAY is deffinitly going places in his career he just won the Puerto Escondido and i think he will be a prime candidate for Pipe and then the WCT.. CLAY is a great surfer who will hopefully progress our sport to new levels and find some new sick spots on the way.

  • J.T. Fulps Says:

theres no doubt that clay will be on tour one day from the footage from young guns 3 a fews years back and to look at how much hes proggesed and the fact that he has 8 hour sessions clay is the future of surfing!!
clay's gonna win jay bay and france and maybe even a world title

  • BTT Says:

Clay is a freak and can throw his tail like no other. His lanky smooth style will jet him to the top of the 'qs next year and he will be granted a wildcard into the 2010 Quick Pro Goldy and win it and establish himself as a serious threat for 2011. Clay will also win the Triple Crown at Sunset this year against Dusty Payne. And he'll win the Quick Pro France in '10. Gimme da goods!

  • axel Says:

Clay Marzo is gonna' be one of the best surfers out there. 2010 will start for him with Quicksilver sending him on a Tahiti trip along with all the best. There he will land a SICK backside rodeo flip and get nominated for best manuever in Surfer Poll Awards 2010. WIth his new publicity, he'll get pumped up and win all his heats in the next QS earning him spot #1. With Andy Irons getting back on the tour Clay, Andy, and Kelly will form a new rivalry with Clay's constantly insane hits, unbelievable floaters, and remarkable airs. Clay will dominate the tour winning at Lowers, getting 3rd in Mundaka (losing to Adrianno de souza), and beating Mick Fanning on his home tirf at Bells!

  • axel (continued) Says:

After racking up a shitload of points, it will come down the finals against Joel Pakinson at PIpe Masters. Trailing by about 300 points and ranked second , Marzo will be the underdog who is full of rage. With epic conditions including 25 foot sets and offshore winds, this final heat at Pipe will be one to remember. Clay and Parko will battle it out each scoring 7's and 8's on their first couple of waves. A lull comes through lasting about 8 minutes while Clay is behind and needs a 9.6 to win. With 15 seconds, a freak set pops up out of nowhere and desperate to hold on to a Pipe Masters win and a World Title Parko cuts off Clay! This will leave Clay no choice but to flat out sock Joel in the balls while getting a nice view of the Banzai's green room. He gets spit out, delivers a legit judo air, and then claims his 10 point scoring wave by catching a beer from a spectator and downing it! Clay deserves this Title just as much as any other free surfer that shreds better than every pro on tour.

  • TylerJR Says:

We all know clay is going places. He'll probably win france, land a 720 air, ride the biggest wave ever seen at Jaws, kill a shark with his bare hands, go to pipeline masters and show kelly up, invent a new surfboard, beat Travis Rice, Danny Kass, and Shawn White in a snowboard contest, become number one in the world. Then he'll stop and get a bite to eat. Clay will end his days by doing such a big floater, he will soar right into the atmosphere.

  • Jiles Says:

Clay Marzo will win the next rock paper scissor contest held on the plane back to hawaii..thrown into the winners cup is a 4 minute romp in the bathroom with this hottie stuardess and a condom..That will be his next big win..best out of 3 rock paper sissors though,,asp rules now..

  • Kevin Barnholt Says:

First of all I'm doing this for an english project, so please feel free to correct anything you see. Not only am I doing this for English but Im also doing it to express my utmost respect for Clay Marzo, the kid rips. When Clay was younger everyone saw him destroy Youth and Junior comps then he seemed to disappear into the realm of freesurfing and photo pro status. First of all, the kid has a uncanny natural ability to surf whatever, whenever better than most of the top 45. Clay was diagnosed with Aspringer's syndrome and frankly I think that is whats has made him stand out, his focus and determination is what makes Clay's surfing the best, his skill and wave awareness is what will take him to the top. He has been gifted by the lord with a condition that makes him a master at his craft mentally. Will Clay ever win the Pipe Masters? Will clay ever be promoted to the world tour? Yes, if he follows a direction in the contest circuit and surfs in the contests that will lead him in that direction, with out a doubt. Clay Marzo is the answer to clean, functional surfing. Even though Clay hasn't been in the contest light for years I bet my first born on him, he is the FUTURE!

  • nikolas r Says:

Clays trainer, Mr. T will help clay improve hes surfing by making him wear all hes gold chains when he surfs, this will in addition to giving him style will weight him down when he surfs. After about a year of this, Mr.T will take the chains from him and send him surfing were he will be pulling higher airs than ever and sicker more inverted rotations. He will then qualify for the tour in 2012 and go on to beat kelly slater ( yes kellys still around and is now riding a 4 foot 7 board he shaped himself) in the final at trestles by doing a 540 air over him as hes paddling back out into the lineup, he will go on to win and claim the rookie of the year award.

  • Kevin Barnholt Says:

I also missed spelled his syndrome, Aspergers.

  • baker3ism Says:

I definatly think that clay will make the tour, and he will continue to progress and impress us all

  • tchris Says:

Clay's obviously got some serious talent, couple that with his dedication to the sport and I believe there are many tour victories in his future. Can't wait to see him claim Pipe.
Hey yo Clay, I'm a have my popcorn ready dawg.

  • reefermadnes Says:

Basically Marzo is going to kick ass the rest of the year and qualify for the WCT. As for the pipe masters I am gonna place him in the top ten, with his fierce frontside attack he is sure to win his heats and advance. Unless He gets injured he should be successful in the remaining contests of the year and maybee win some cash. In the future im guessing a couple cover shots backside airs or something that looks sick and rediculous. Clay marzo is for sure a future contender for the world title just give it a little time.

  • dynamic760 Says:

In order to compete in the realm of the futures surfing elite, you're going to need an array of explosive fins free maneuvers, aerials, and your own unique flare to stand out above the rest. Clay Marzo exhibits all of these abilities and pushes every surf session harder than the last. Though Clay’s unparalleled enthusiasm for the sport and respect for the ocean isn’t the only reason he’s going to one day reign as a world surfing champion.

I believe Clay’s true power lies within the syndrome of Asperger’s. While some view it as a “disease”, I see it as a gift. It allows him to channel intense amounts of focus and intuition into his own inherently unique style. As he learns to fuse his own talents he’s been given from birth with the teachings he receives from various surfing coaches, the competition will have a serious problem on their hands.

As Clay’s career progresses, his raw and unprecedented surfing will not only land him wins in various competitions but also gain him access to the world tour. Winning a Pipe Master’s trophy is extremely viable for Clay. Getting covered in grinding overhead barrels is part of his weekly routine on the island of Maui where he was born and raised. If you’ve ever paid attention to Clay’s surfing in detail you’ll recognize he has the innate ability to land maneuvers where most people would’ve eaten sh*t, so making late drops and holding balance in a double overhead barrel isn’t too much of a challenge for him.

Without a doubt, Clay has been given the tools to succeed in the world of surfing. The real challenge lies within the question – “Does he have the drive and discipline to focus his energies into the competitive realm of surfing?” I’m putting my money on yes.

Clay Marzo surfs like know one else.Clay's style is crazy and you never know what he'll do next. He's only 20 and in terms of ability he blows people away. The flexibility in Clay's legs are amazing,He lands the narliest airs ever. If he keeps working at this level and continues to progress I think in the next 5 years Clay will be in the World Tour and win Pipe.

  • Matty Says:

Of course he'll make the tour… Once they change the judging criteria.

  • Bennett Says:

Clay Marzo rips and has a style that no one can match. He's got a bright future but it's up to him to win the pipe masters and take the world title. If he puts his mind to it he will be a world champ but if he is happy where he is than he should stay in his comfort zone and just hang out at his home breaks and be a free surfer

  • kazumichi Says:

No matter what he does, I'll always be his strongest supporter

  • Jansen Says:

Clay Marzo is the next big thing. He will be the next Bruce Irons, competting a bit and freesurfing heaps, he will invent new airs that people could never imagine, he will make surf movies that will be freakishly good and he will go down as one of the best all round surfers the world has ever seen

  • @hUNTERinArab Says:

Clay Marzo means everything to me. His my Hero.

  • kendizle808 Says:

I cannot predict the future for you. I can only supply my perspective for you to interpret your own conclusion. A Contest is an illusion for the human ego. It is a figment of imagination which has no concrete nature of its own. When engaged in a contest, I must press onto you, that you must not forget your purpose: Barrelization and throwing fat buckets (sick airs and boosts are always peachy). Contests have line ups that may have people who paddle battle you constantly and/or show signs of aggression. Sure, there may be some dude in a podium screaming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4-ish commentary for paychecks, but it doesn't bother you. In fact you don't hear the words at all. It is a blur of audio. Visually, some guy in your peripheral is scrambling for a wave; wearing a rash guard with the number 08 on it. The brain has analyzed all factors of danger, including an aggro surfer trying to snake you. Whatever vibe he may be giving, it passes straight over your head. In fact, you don't care for him at all. Before paddling out, your manager kept bugging you with a voice that pierced your ears: "OMG OMG CLAY MARZO BLAH BLEH CONTEST OMG OMG RIGHT NOW OMG WCT ASP OMG KELLY SLATER OMG". It was an adult trying to help. In fact, (taking a shot out in the dark here) he’s probably a pretty cool guy. To concentrate on the task at hand is to eliminate all unnecessary extremities. To fulfill your purpose is to not let any of those factors tie in to your interaction with the ocean. Besides the yelling commentator, the aggro surfers, and the business manager, you must not forget your purpose: RIP THE CRAP OUT OF THOSE WAVES AND REPRESENT HAWAII. Remember, when your winning the World tour and the Pipe masters, you are already winning the moment you decide to follow no one, be you, and have super fun. That's the real win.

Clay undoubtedly has the ability to develop the skills needed to enter the world tour. Clay has the drive and motivation to take his surfing wherever he feels he can continue to progress and have fun. His love for surfing and unique style can be seen through his progressive surfing and groundbreaking maneuvers. These skills will help him whether he decides to attack the contest circuit or focus on free surfing. No matter where he chooses to take his career, he will constantly be progressing the sport of surfing and continue to have fun in the process.

Haha insane video parts are one thing, contests wins and world Champs are another, this kids got the potential to rock a couple of heats if he can bring his video act to the tour but remember Taj Burrow? The kid with the insane video parts but struggled to bring his act to the Tour. Who knows get Clay a wildcard for pipe this yr, id definitely give him one. Hands down one of the best free-surfing acts in the world!!

  • Chris Says:

Not for lack of ability because it's clear that he's one of the great, young surfers of the moment, but any sort of tour schedule I think would just put a blanket over his fire. I just can't see him being able to negotiate the seemingly endless waiting periods. I'm thinking of the recent Mundaka event: I couldn't handle the waiting periods - and I wasn't even there. And the rigidity and grind of the schedule? No, he'll pick and choose events and he will most definitely shine in them. Quik will get loads of footage and he will stay gold as a freesurfer.

Clay Marzo may or may not win contests, and he may or may do the World Tour. Although, I am biased to believe that he will do this and more.

In addition to his insane accomplishments in the surf world, he will make history as a man who, "because of" or "in spite of" a complex neurological disorder, will make re-invent the sport, re-define "normal," make magic, turn heads, crush expectations, inspire an entire industry and hopefully, the world.

My 9-year old boy is diagnosed with Autism, and he too perseverates on surfing. Doing it, talking about it, drawing it, watching it. This weekend, he paddled out and rode a wave alone for the first time. He felt so smart and proud of himself. He loves to watch Clay do his crazy, cool shit in "Just Add Water," and our family continues to draw inspiration from him, his family & his path in the world.

Your name will be written in the stars, Clay.

  • mike Says:

clay marzo is shit.when he surfs his feet are super glued to the board and the manuvers he pulls off are rediculos.his future is bright and more wins are for sure.his surfing is so unique its hard to really acknowledge what he is actually doing until you slow it down.a win at pipe is gonna be a challenge but is defeinly not out of the question.making the world tour is inevitable.

  • tate Says:

well when i saw marzo surf in J bay south africa and in pipeline i knew that he would make the world tour. when I saw him in just add water I thought he surfed just like mick fanning it was so crazy how much they surfed alike they both have so much steez when they surf it drives me crazy!!! I think he will be the best surfer in king of the peak which everone should watch its on november 7th to the 15th. plus marzo surfs with such steez there is no way that he wont make the pipe masters and the world tour. I wont be supprised if he gets surfer of the year in a cople years this dude ripps!!

  • Mark Says:

In a few years time, his true passion will be lived by quitting professional surfing and becoming a world class chess player, ripping still but living his real dream. Not to crash his dreams but he doesnt want to be the world tour star everyone thinks.

  • jmozeak Says:

Obviously Marzos talented. He's beyond flexible, is the only thing in this recession that isn't falling and it would take a small army to knock him off his board…..he's gonna blow up some big contest in the future no doubt. With all that talent though, why not think out of the box? Flexible beyond belief?………Future brazilian jui jitsu world champ….Marzo refuses to fall…..Why not stick a board to his feet with some straps?….future snowboarding champ! The skies the limit for Marzo.

  • Cory Chalker Says:

Clay Marzo will win the pipe masters one day. He will make the world tour and fall off tour all in one year. Then come back and blow everyone out of the water. I think that he will also win the eddie, and i think this will all happen in the next 5 years.

  • Zack Jones Says:

MArzo's the man, plain and simple. hes over come soo much to get to where he is right now and hes a huge inspiration to me. my little brother as well has battled to over come autism his whole life, but at the same time the kid still rips harder than i do and has only been surfing for half the time I have. I love seeing people who "have the odds against them" push hard and not let stand in between them and their dreams. marzo as well as my little brother make me very appreciative for what I have as well as life in general. these guys prove one thing, the possibilities really are endless. Now back to Marzo, the point of this contest is to say what he will do eh? well i think hes already said it himself what hes gonna do. him winning at escondido just proves one thing, hes ready for pipe. after all with esondido being nicknamed "the mexican pipeline" I dont see why he wouldnt be able to take the crown on the north shore this year. the dudes definitly ready and I thinks hes proved that to all by winning at escondido. plain and simple, this dudes the man. Im just stoked to see what he has in store next. defintly TC champ material. I am super stoked to follow this guy throughout his career and see what else he can overcome. before u know it he'll make up his own trick that throws kelly slaters "rodeo clown", julian wilsons "sushi roll", and even damin hobgoods newly achieved "tippy toed tap-tap" under the bus. look out for this guy, hes a true soldier.

  • Syngen Bingham Says:

Clay is the man!!! i know he will win pipe one day and he'll make it his for sure. Everyone who has seen him surf knows that hell make the world tour, i mean like its clay one of the sickest new guys out there. everywhere he goes he gets spoted, everyone on the beach is like holy **** look at him rip. Clay is #1!!!

  • Daniel Says:

Clay is gonna essplode with awesome surf richouness and well all be stupified by the cow utter awesomeness that he brings

  • M.Walz Says:

Clay will not make the wct. he might win pipe line, he will become one of the greatest free surfers ever

  • leecanada Says:

I'm going to disagree with most of the postings here, but not out of any lack of respect for Clay. I think Clay is a phenomenally talented surfer; creative, gifted, and unique. I think he definitely has the skill to make the 'CT, but the same qualities which make him such an interesting and innovative surfer will preclude him from having the drive to persevere through the 'QS. To do well competitively takes restraint - the ability to surf defensively and sometimes conservatively. It takes a certain mindset to subordinate the freedom of surfing to concerns about what the judges are looking for, who has heat priority, strategies and tactics. It takes focus, and Clay definitely has that. But his focus is different. It's a pure, unadulterated passion for surfing, in and of itself. I don't think he will make, or even try to make, the 'CT. But I think his passion could easily make him the greatest free surfer ever.

  • darker Says:

Marzo wins his first pipeline masters in 2013 after making the WCT in 2011.

  • Julien, D Says:

Clay Marzo is one of the most explosive surfers of are generation, with his air reverses and the way he gets in position for a barrel, Theirs no doubt he can get on the world tour and win a world title, the only draw back is that Clay has Asperger's syndrom and dose not preform as a contest surfer as well as free surfer. This dose not mean he's not as good as most surfers he's just not it to the contest thing. Wasilewski Quicksilver manager recalls " He's more then talented to win contest but at what cost ? i don't want him to freak out or be miserable because he's got to conform. The most important thing is for Clay to be happy." Clay is just fine being a elite free surfer doing surf videos, editing , and just surfing at his home in Maui Hawaii. The future is bright for Clay an he can put his mind to any thing he wants weather it be wining the Pipe line masters or betting Kelly's 9x world titles. Just let Clay be Clay and let him do his own thing and he'll amaze all of us.

  • Jeff in CA Says:

In 2012, super-grom Clay Marzo will be on the ASP Dream Tour. Clay will join Duster Payner and Totes Magotes to form the Maui power triangle. This triangle will be unlike any power triangle that has EVER existed. Traveling by private G5's, the triangle will have the upmost advantages going into each event. The G5's will have specific customizations catered towards the Maui Power Triangle. There will be a frothy shaved ice machine, multiple masseuses (Clay's so down with massages), and even a Starbucks. These amenities will put Clay and the boys in such a heighten state of Zen, they won't even need surfboards to win contests. Get this, they'll paddle out on skateboard decks! Yeah I know, it blows my mind too. You think Dane and Kerzzy get inverted? Wait until you see Clay do a Judo Mctwist at J Bay. The Pipe Masters….come on. Clay will get so sav, he'll make Jamie quit surfing… and twittering. Damn, boys' gonna get all loose. Kelly will be his board caddie, but won't try to be his coach. Clay will be coaching him, I can assure you that much. Above all else, Clay's just gonna keep on shining. He'll be waxing fools in contests, in video parts, and in G5's. Belee dat.

  • mardo Says:

If clay will be in the world tour? hell yeah . He will win the pipe someday? hell yeah
Clay is one of the most talented young surfers today …with his first profesional win in puerto , am sure he will contest every goal he has in mind …
Clay is such and inspiration … am who knows…maybe he will be ripping in bells , the gold coast , teahupoo , sooner than we thought….

  • jomorales Says:

Clay Marzo is one of the most impressive rider but I think he will never win the Pipe nor be qualify for the Dream Tour. He his not focus enough for events. He will stay a free surf very strong in hawaii some kind of Jamie O

  • Jc Valdez Says:

With the win of of the recent Quicksilver pro in Puerto Escondido the complex and radical surfer Clay Marzo has no where to go but up. Marzo is an extremely flexible rider that almost always keeps his board no matter how turbulent the ride. Clay Marzo is a amazingly progressive surfer that we all hope to see in wtc and rock the pipeline masters, and show us all the amazing feats he's capable of with some impressive wins and killer rides.

  • Tyler Cliggett Says:

i think watchin clay surf with the big dogs would be great. hes young and seeing him take his skills to the next level will be a good influence to the sport. he is a progressive and innovative surfer and as long as he keeps that up he could be a real competitor on tour. being from hawaii, his chances of winning the pipe masters are high. you never know he could even win a worl title.

  • sb407 Says:

No one should have any doubts on a young individual with extraordinary qualities and abilities. Yes, no one can predict somebody's future, but Clay Marzo isn't just a "somebody." Marzo has a gift, given in a form that others perceive as a disadvantage or worse yet, a disease. His struggle with Asperger’s not only helped his distinctive style of surfing and in competitions, but inspired the young generation, like myself, which I believe is the focal basis of surfing.
Remarkable maneuvers and aerials and the relationship with his spirit and the ocean, will land this dynamic surfer situated on the highest pedestal in numerous competitions. Will he win Pipe Masters and World Tour? If there is an optimistic approach in his mind-set, this gifted individual can achieve any aspirations.

  • Robert Says:

I think that clay will win the pipe masters because he has the momentum from his win in Puerto escondido. When he wins the Pipe Masters he will definetley get into the world tour. I completly believe in him. I know he is going to win. He is going to win every where he goes. he is going to rise to the top.

  • nick metrie Says:

Clay fer sure will make the world tour, he can shred with the best of them. Not to sure he will win Pipe Masters this year but maybe in the near future. He's got skills and with this win under his belt more are sure to follow.

  • mike Says:

Clays gonna make the world tour. But i think his strengths are more in free surfing. Either way, the kid is awesome to watch

  • 808Keith Says:

Clay will win the Pipe Masters and maybe the Billabong Pro Teahupoo at least once in his career. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins these events not by just pulling in, but pulling in, getting spit out, and then throwing in a big tail waft or air reverse to finish off the wave in solid over head waves.

  • D.R. Says:

    Ya he's pretty good.

  • edusti Says:

so what will Clay do? which contests will he win?? guys might argue that he will or not win contests, or make the wct, and even though he might do all these thing I think his true calling will take him in a different direction……….what direction is that you might ask?? well I see clay becoming the new zen embasador for the surf industry……..after all someone has to releive machado from his dutties………so whenever Clay achieves world & ocean peace you can look back and remember that guy in the TransSURF site that predicted it……….PEACE,

  • treflows Says:

Clay's gonna dominate once he clicks in with contests, I think it's starting now…all he has to do is roll with it and surf the way only Clay surfs…Like an animal

  • makshredder Says:

My dad says Clay Marzo is one of the most incredible free surfers right now. I've seen vidoe's of him and I'm amazed at the way the board just sticks to his feet. I don't think he's ready for contest yet because, it take a different mind set to win. Look at some of the other surfers who went from free surfing to contest or contest to free surfing, when people free surf they are more relaxed and fluid when there's no pressure. Who know's he might shine in the Triple Crown but, I've never seen video of him surfing Pipe. I hope he does well because he's one of my favorite surfers right now. I'm just starting to surf and he's one of the new breed. My dad like the older guy's(AI, Kelly, Taj, Curren, Buttons, ….)I'm into the new breed. I'm nine and I love surfing.Aloha -Makena

  • Sam Says:

The guy is is deinetly going on the tour soon because he doesn't fall. Who knows what will happen for him mabye a title or two.

  • Wood22 Says:

No is not just a great surfer, he is is such a nice Lad. He is going to be the one to watch.

  • Austin Says:

Clay will defentily make the WCT with his crazy turns and his recovery's from the those turns!! Clay brings surfing to a new level! He will also win the pipe masters because he is an amazing barrel rider and lives in Hawaii where theres good waves all the time to practice.

  • SwellRida707 Says:

Where do I start about Clay Marzo!? I was stoked to hear the Clay won the Quiksilver Pro because the dude striaght up rips. I started following him because I am 21 and love to watch young rippers and pavers for new styles (also like Jordy "Air" Smith, love that guy). I scoped the E60 special and found out about his Asperger's and how it helps a person focus on one thing really hard and they give it there all. After hearing that and watching him rip, one can't deny this bro will win pipe masters one day as well as other mega gnarly conests. I just want to know how that kid fishes the lips like that and stays on his board. I say Pipe Masters 1st, ASP champ, and also triple crown. Quote me on that too.

  • aussi1 Says:

uh i think clay is a pretty chill dude with a style that no one has but wants….he will surf and win if he wants, who knows….if hes in the water he can do whatever, hope to see him stay chill and surf what he wants

  • Ronin Guerra Says:

The guy is one of the best goofyfooters on the planet. He'll tear it up at all the lefts on tour starting with Teahupoo, Mundaka & Pipeline. But he'll be more deadly at all the beachbreaks, tearing the back out of waves with his huge hacks & aerial assault, punting Trestles, Winkipop, & Hossegor. The one that will give him problems is J-bay. What am i saying?? He just won Puerto!! Welcome to the 2015 WCT World Champ Clay Marzo. Shaka bruddah!!

  • Bucky Says:

Clay will win any contest he wants to! The kid's a RIPPAH!!! Surfing Contests, Eating Contests! Staring Contests! Syncronized swimming contests! Lumberjack Contests! Ro-Sham-Bo contests! He's A natural! very gifted! many many talents! he's going places! got the world by the balls that Clay Marzo Does!!!

  • Gabriel Says:

ill put it plan and simple. Clay marzo will definitely win pipe master and all other competition because how he surfs and how deep he gets into the surfing. You see a lot of rides come out and do there best like slater, mcfanning, the iron bros machado and then you have Clay. I see a lot coming out of him and if he keeps up his current talent and competition skills he will have alot of major titles coming toward him very soon.

  • Tony Fekete Says:

Clay Marzo is a young Slates! He has a dane reynolds arsenal with a more focused Slater drive. I can see him winning any one if not all of the major contest’s if he’s on and he usually is and can be! It will be a great career for him and all us fans to watch him shred and develope a his future on the tour. Watch out surfing world, we might just have the next big thing coming through here shortly!

  • Nick Says:

Let me just say I have been getting transworld surf for a few years now, but the questions about Clay are by far the easiest and dumbest questions ever. Of course he will make the world tour, i have young guns 3 and clay marzo's "Just add water" and he is the most impressive surfer to watch right now. Don't get me wrong Julian Wilson is another one I love to watch cause he is pretty amazing too, but when I seen that one part in young guns 3 when he goes up and off the lip lands and surfs backwards and spins back around, yea that was insane… Also about winning the Pipe Masters one day, I think he will win it one day as long as he stays focused and continues to surf cause he loves it….
