According to a report on www.10news.com an arrest has been made in the disappearance and murder of Hurley employee Dane Williams who vanished after leaving the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown San Diego during ASR in January of 2008. The site reports that Philong Huynh will be arraigned today in connection with the murder. Stay tuned as details emerge…

As reported on www3.signonsandiego.com

Philong Huynh, 39, of San Diego, will be charged with a special-circumstance allegation of committing murder in the commission of a sex crime in the death of Dane Williams, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Huynh also will face charges of sodomy of an intoxicated person, said Paul Levikow, a spokesman for the office. Police said Huynh lives within 800 feet of where the body of 23-year-old Williams was found three days after he vanished.

Lt. Kevin Rooney said investigators had not identified a suspect until after June 6, when a man reported being the victim of a sex crime. On Aug. 19, DNA evidence from that crime was matched in an FBI DNA database to DNA found on Williams’ body, Rooney said. The June 6 assault led homicide investigators to Huynh with help from the sex-crime victim, Rooney said.

Officers spotted him driving Thursday on 43rd and Orange Avenue just after 5 p.m. and took him into custody.

The special allegation in Williams’ death makes Huyhn eligible for the death penalty if convicted. The prosecution will decide whether to seek the death penalty following a preliminary hearing.
As reported on www.10news.com:

A 1:30 p.m. arraignment is scheduled for Philong Huynh, who was arrested in connection with the January 2008 murder of a 23-year-old Orange County man whose body was found in a City Heights alley three days after he vanished after leaving a bar in the Gaslamp District.

Dane Williams of Huntington Beach disappeared in the early-morning hours of Jan. 26 after leaving a Gaslamp Quarter bar while visiting San Diego to work a convention, according to police.Three days later, a passerby found the marketing intern’s body wrapped in a blanket on an access road off the 5200 block of Landis Street, about six miles from the site of his last-known whereabouts.

This is horrendous. I can't imagine that this monster will sit and jail and live…what a waste of tax money. I'm really starting to change my anti-death penalty stance.
I guess at this point, all we can really do is pray for the Williams family.
    RIP Dane.

Exactly. Is it just me or does anyone else find the hypocrisy in the fact that we have no problem aborting babies, but find it "barbaric" to put monsters like this down?

Btw- I'm not some right wing nut and actually believe in both, but I'm so and sick tired of our societies hypocrisy and believe we as citizens should start calling these facts out.

  • FlyInJ Says:

Swanson, It can actually cost the tax payers more money to put assholes like this on deathrow… with unlimited appeals and with how slowly the justice system seems to work. Either way, this guy deserves to sit in prison the rest of his life whether the chair awaits him or not.

    It's just you.
