Stuart Rocks
The Rocks, as this spot is commonly referred to, is one of the only natural pointbreaks in Florida. A small Anastasia headland of shell fragments and dead coral juts out to sea at just the right angle. The headland and the inside reef help maintain a sandbank that begins on the north side of the main peak, and on good days, big, powerful lefts start out back and run into the cove in pointbreak fashion, while a shorter right breaks back against the grain on the north side of the main peak. Although Stuart Rocks cannot hold as much size as favorite lefthanders like Reef Road, it can be a very powerful wave. In the 4- to 6-foot range, it\'ll grind straight through several hollow sections over shallow patches of the reef, depending on the swell. A very northerly swell will miss the break entirely, while northeasterly swells produce more hollow surf and easterly swells tend to wall. It works best at the start of the incoming tide and is a little more protected from sideshore and northeast wind conditions, shifting south when the wind is sideshore or onshore. Keep in mind that the longshore current is usually strong, and you\'re paddling out through a boulder garden, so watch how the locals get in and out. It\'s not uncommon to sacrifice a fin and/or skin at The Rocks. Speaking of fins, sharks frequent the reef, but the crowd keeps the odds favorable. A tight crew of locals dominates the main peak at Stuart Rocks. Most of them ride Impact Surfboards and hang out in the little hut. The polite surfer should not encounter anything worse than stink-eye, but tread softly -- some locals are friendly and some aren\'t. Don\'t drop in on anyone: the inside reef is treacherous the entire length of the point, and the parking lot is far more dangerous than the reef. It used to be that any unfamiliar car (God forbid that it should have Dade or Broward tags) was vandalized immediately. Common pranks ranged from ham on the windshield to slashed tires and smashed windows. Although the intensity of the violence has diminished, fights and vandalism still happen. It\'s a good idea to back your car in if you\'re from another county. Copied and pasted from: http://www.surfline.com/travel/surfmaps/surfspot.cfm?id=627
