The last time Slater competed at this event was way back in 1993 as a 21 year old one time ASP World Champion and the memories from that event were not so sweet.
Nick Rupp (Ocean Isle Beach, NC), 18, has won the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 1-Star DNA Energy Pro Junior over fellow finalists Noah Schweizer (New Smyrna Beach, FL), 15, Evan Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, FL), 17, and Californian Luke Davis (Capistrano Beach, CA), 18, in a hard fought final in one-to-two foot (.5 metre) surf at New Smyrna Beach Inlet, Florida.
