TransWorld SURF’s Imaginarium:
A Contest To Progress The Creativity Of Surf Photography
Three Teams. Three Destinations. Three Colors. One Winner.
HOW THIS WORKS:
- Three teams were chosen to create an eight-page article for TransWorld SURF, as well as a five-minute video for transworldsurf.com with one of the four colors of the CMYK color model as their theme.
- The teams had the entire month of June 2010 to go anywhere in the world to shoot their videos and photos.
- Each team’s photo submission was judged and made up 50 percent of the overall score. The remaining 50 percent of the overall score was determined with 25-percent focus on creativity, and the other 25 percent on the team videos.
- Winning team gets the cover of TransWorld SURF and a pass into next year’s Imaginarium.
TEAM: O’NEILL
We Live Our Lives In Black
Bobby Martinez, Cory Lopez, Luke Davis, Timmy Reyes

After drawing black (one of the four colors in the CMYK color model) in the inaugural TransWorld SURF “Imaginarium” photography contest, the boys from O’Neill got to work in Costa Rica utilizing their best team riders. With guys like Cory Lopez and Tim Reyes blasting off in the punchy ramps and a sprinkle of Bobby Martinez thrown in for good measure, O’Neill took the black theme and ran with it.
TEAM: OAKLEY
Can Any Thing Go Yellow?
Dustin Barca, Kolohe Andino, Sebastian Zietz, Tommy Whitaker
Color: Yellow

“When we heard the concept, the first thing we thought about were flashes in Tahiti,” said Oakley’s Ronnie Nelson. “When we got yellow, we knew we had the right color for what we wanted to do.” Like most collaborative efforts, the hardest part of creating their final product was deciding on one concept to execute. But they headed to Tahiti with Dustin Barca, Kolohe Andino, Sebastian Zietz, and Tom Whitaker and made some magic happen.
TEAM: GLOBE

There was a point there that we almost called TransWorld and quit,” says Globe director Joe G. “I was having a full on panic attack, Dion was in intense pain with a punctured eardrum, and everything just sucked. So of course, we decided to go to the bar, and somehow great things just started happening—weird how that happens sometimes,” laughs Joe G.
