CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA —- A surfer was pulled from waters off San Elijo State Beach on Tuesday and taken to the hospital, officials said.

Shortly before noon, along a stretch of beach known for good surf conditions, a fellow beachgoer pulled the surfer ashore, officials said.

Firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, lifeguards and an ambulance all responded and the surfer, said to be in his 20s, received unspecified medical aid on the beach.

The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas.
