Transworld SURF editors Chris Cote, Aaron Checkwood and Casey Koteen talk WCT after Kelly Slater’s win at the Boost Mobile Pro…for the record, Slater did not sleep in a tent with Ms. Cote as Checky so insidiously insinuated.

Taj lost because he played prevent defense. Never works, never will. You can’t win sitting there watching your opponent do everything while you do nothing…He only surfed half a final.

  • SourMilk Says:

Best contest wrap up on the internet. TB won that thing. Nationalism took it from him. Don’t trip Coach, but you’re fired! Go Checky…

  • B Says:

All I know is if Kelly got a 10 in whatever round, sorry I forget but I did watch it then Dane should have gotten a 15 for his wave in round 3. He fuckin had half a video part in his heat! No disrespect to TB or Kelly but I would rewind Dane’s wave a thousand times but I don’t have an urge to ever watch that final wave that Kelly milked and claimed again.

  • Danny Says:

I seriously don’t see where the controversy is.

fricken awesome wrap up. drop the f-bomb a few times and it’ll be on! no chance slater won…

  • Bolt Thrower Says:

You guys are talking about his last wave being over scored? His first score of a 9.7 was the biggest fricking joke every? He does one sick snap and a bunch of OK turns milking it to the beach. Kelly Slater should be embarrassed that he won! However, being the egotistical kook/jock he is, he believes he actually won. I’m snaking that kook if I every see him in the water.

To all the kooks that think slater won…keep boogie boarding.

That’s a close one for sure. I definitely agree with the coach on the whole variety argument; Kelly hands down did just about everything we know him for on that last wave, seamlessly linking different maneuvers and maintaining speed, but I don’t think that there were 9 points in that thing. I just don’t think they should be giving out more than 9 points on an in between wave like that, unless you go balls out, boosting a huge air and then ripping it to pieces all the way to the beach. My vote goes to TB.

  • Will Says:

I watched every wave of the contest from Australia on the web and not one person scored over an 8 for an inside wave. Kelly surfed the wave awesome but it was no way near a 9 point ride. The judges are just caught up in the hype, Taj won for sure!!!

  • Z-Man Says:

The judges should have used the instant replay option and NOT called out the final score before Kelly made it to the beach. The judges were obviously caught up in the excitement of a last minute/wave win. It’s the head judge’s job to keep things on an even keel in the judges box.

  • Ronnie Roberts Says:

Taj definitely should have won the contest based on the fact that he caught the best waves of the heat and performed at the highest level. Kelly on the other hand showed why he is the best competitive surfer ever, because he fought until the very end as a true competitor should. Although the talent level is there for any of the top guys on tour, none of them have shown the consistency and tenacity for being a top competitor. Think about people…Kelly has been doing this since the early 90’s. Can you imagine Parko, the Hobgoods, Bede, etc… still doing what Kelly is doing in 2015? I don’t think so. Talent can get you through sometimes, but a true competitor will always win.

the judges luv kellys 8=====D taj smoked him

  • Jay Kohn Says:

The Aussie’s are crying fowl for sure! I watched the final online and it was a close one. Taj seemed really pissed!!!! I guess it could have gone either way but he did sit out there with priority for the second half of the heat without catching a wave. It’s hard to hold on and beat Slater that way. Huh?
