SYDNEY, Australia (Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008) — The 2007 Billabong ASP World Junior Championships will kick off in good 1.5 meter waves at Sydney’s North Narrabeen beach, this morning.

Organizers have called for an 08h00 (local time) start, which will see four heats of the Girls division completed before Round 1 of the Boys division gets underway at around 10h00.

The Girls division sees a heat draw stacked with future world beaters; French Pro Junior Girls champion Pauline Ado taking on Marina Weneck (BRA) and 2007 Vans Rookie of the Triple Crown Coco Ho (HAW), in the first heat of the day.

All four girls heats look set to reveal world class surfing with World Junior Champion Courtney Conologue (USA) featuring in Heat 2, South African Junior Champion Nikita Robb in Heat 3 and Australia’s foremost junior girls Sally Fitzgibbons and Laura Enever set to clash in Heat 4.

The first heat of the Boys division will see Hawaii’s Tonino Benson take on Tatsuya Fukagawa (JPN) and Shu Hagiwara (JPN).

Heats will be 30-minutes in length with a maximum of two waves counting towards a surfers overall heat score.

A total field of 48 junior men, 18 junior women plus four wildcards from eight surfing regions, feature in this year’s Billabong ASP World Junior Championships.
