The North Shore Thus Far

The North Shore Thus Far

It’s mid November and the surfing world has its collective eyeballs fixed on a tiny little rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. More specifically, the world is looking at a mere three miles of coastline on the North Shore of Oahu (forget the Haleiwa side of Waimea Bay, that’s for guys like me and you). So far there have been two significant swells; one that barreled up and over the reef at Pipeline, and one that was so north that it lit up spots that are usually off the radar. It was also that fateful north swell that took the life of underground charger Kirk Passmore…rest in peace Kirk.

Now that there’s nothing in the way of surf, it’s good time to have a look back at those two swells. And before everyone writes off the winter as a bust, keep in mind that actual winter doesn’t really begin until December 21st, so keep those panties un-bunched and go run some rocks underwater if you’re bored.

The Jamie O’Brien fan club documents Pipeline in less than flattering attire…
