Carissa Moore and Alejo Muniz win big at the 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing

Congrats to 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing champions Carissa Moore and Alejo Muniz! The final day was held in a front of a maximum capacity crowd at Huntington Beach Pier in 2-3 foot surf. With her win, Carissa moves ahead of Tyler Wright in the race for the 2013 Women’s World Title. “It’s such an honor to win this event in front of this big crowd. I feel amazing!” said Carissa.

Muniz, the regularfoot from Brazil, overcame Orange County’s own Kolohe Andino despite the latter sticking a huge air that had a few fans grumbling, “Underscored!” Muniz, who has been struggling on the World Championship Tour, took home a whopping $100,000 paycheck and had this to say to the media, “I was putting everything in to this event and the work paid off. I focused more on myself rather than who I was surfing against and what scores they were getting.” Whatever he did worked—the Argentine/Brazilian is going home a rich man.
