Cyclone Evan Spares Tavarua
The home of the 2013 Volcom Fiji Pro battered but not beaten
As a supercharged cyclone Evan lashed tiny Tavarua Resort off the South Pacific nation of Fiji, we feared for the lives of our friends there and on the main island, Viti Levu. It turns out that while they got beat up pretty good, the resort and its staff are safe and sound. While they don’t have full internet access yet, a recent Facebook suggested all was okay at the home of the 2013 Volcom Fiji Pro. See below for the post…

“Vinaka for all the thoughts and prayers. We are all well – including all three villages. We’re a bit battered and bruised and tattered but everyone is happy to be on the other side of Evan. Island is closed for some major clean up but we hope to be back open soon and see you all here again. Stay tuned for photos—it was an experience!” Follow Tavarua Resort on Facebook at facebook.com/tavaruaisland

Also taking a direct hit from cyclone Evan was the island nation of Samoa. Tourists were evacuated out of the town of Apia before the storm but are now returning. For more information go to stuff.co.nz
