This past saturday the surfing community paid respect to renowned surfer/shaper Donald Takayama with a memorial and ceremonial paddle out. Despite pounding four-to-six foot surf and howling winds, hundreds made the paddle out alongside the Oceanside Pier and many more lined the pier. Donald held a special place in the heart of thousands and forever will be remembered as an icon of surfing and ambassador of the aloha spirit. Rest in peace DT!
