California Road Trippin’

If you look closely you can see the Farallon Islands—home to some very large and hungry great whites. But that fear goes right out the window when the surf is doing this... Photo: Checkwood

We just got back from an incredible, four-day road trip up the California coastline. Based out of Santa Cruz, we were met by light offshore winds, relatively warm water (58-degrees or so), clear skies, and a pumping swell that peaked at six-to-eight foot and flawless. With the best surfers in the world in town for the O’Neill Coldwater Classic, talent was easy to come by. Here’s a batch of photos from TWS Photo Editor Aaron Checkwood who was hustling up and down the coastline and shooting all day, everyday. On the next page, you’ll find my batch of not-so-professional snapshots that were posted on instagram and twitter. Enjoy!
