With a little break in the Quiksilver Pro action, the who’s who of surfing descended upon South Stradbroke Island an hour north of Coolangatta. Our crew left at 8am and by 9 we were taking the water taxi across the body of water that separates the island from the mainland. The ferry costs $6AUS and is well worth it unless you like paddling across a bull-shark infested channel. Just who was out? Mick Fanning, John John, Simpo, Bede, Gabriel Medina, Jadson Andre, Miguel Pupo, CJ and Damien Hobgood, Jack Robinson, Adam Bennetts and probably a hundred more dudes. Still, with all the crew it was pretty easy to get waves as there were peaks up and down the beach and it was nice and consistent.
