Day 2 of Copa Quiksilver El Salvador

Kristian Kymerson Leads Day 2 of Copa Quiksilver El Salvador

krystian-kymmerson1PUNTA ROCA, La Libertad / El Salvador (Thursday, July 7,2011) – The ASP 4-Star Copa Quiksilver El Salvador returned to Punta Roca in La Libertad, El Salvador for a second day of clean conditions and fun 3-5ft waves to finish off the Round of 96.

The Copa Quiksilver El Salvador is the second event on the Latin American portion of the North American regional tour, giving opportunity to show off Latin American talent as well as offering up valuable points toward the ASP World Ranking.

Krystian Kymerson (BRA), 18, gave an exciting performance and earned himself the highest single-wave score of the day of 9.17 as well as the highest heat-total of the event so far with his 17.17 out of a possible 20 points.

“I was lucky to get a good start with that first wave,” Kymmerson said. “It was only going to be a one-move wave, so I went for a backside air and got a 9.17. Then I paddled out and picked up and 8.00 halfway down the point.”

Kymerson, who is a young up and comer hailing from Brazil felt right at home in the warm waters of Punta Roca.

“I’m ready for the next round,” Kymmerson said. “I’ve surfed two heats now, and feel more comfortable with the wave and can’t wait to get back out there.”

Marco Giorgi (ECU), 23, seemed to be familiar with the righthand point break of Punta Roca as well and earned the second highest single-wave score of the day of 9.00 as well as the second best heat total of 15.83 out of 20 possible points.

“The conditions are so good, it’s an easy wave to surf, the wind is perfect for airs and I’m stoked on it,” Giorgi said. “The place I live is similar. It’s a right point, same kind of rocks, it doesn’t barrel, but it’s super fun for turns and airs.”

Also impressed with the new location Punta Roca offered up was Keala Naihe (HAW), 17.

“The wave is so perfect,” Naihe said.” The wave is similar to the wave I surf at home, but without all the boils. It’s easier to surf, and I’m having a good time in these waves and can’t wait for the next round.”

Naihe found his rhythm and put on a great performance in his second round heat.

“My first heat I didn’t really catch the best waves, and got a little lucky to advance with two 5s,”Naihe said. “I wasn’t really too stoked with that heat, so today I just tried to relax a little more. “

The Copa Quiksilver El Salvador will recommence tomorrow with Heat 1 of the Round of 64 at 7am local time and is webcast LIVE via www.quiksilver.com/elsalvador
