Bobby Martinez Is Madder Than Hell

Never one to bite his tongue, ASP World Tour surfer Bobby Martinez had some pointed words regarding the ASP’s One World Ranking via his Twitter account

Currently rated 14th in the world in the World Title Rankings, Bobby Martinez is ranked #44 in the World Rankings. The goofyfoot from Santa Barbara, CA. isn’t happy about it either, stating “one world ranking is fuking stupid…how r people ahead of me and i dont even compete againts them! fuking stupid!” via Twitter today.

He followed that up with, “the more i think about this new ranking system it makes me want to fuken slap whoever came up with this dumb fuking idea!” and an hour later added, “i can c it already asp lawyer emailing me and saying hes gonna fine me. fuk it 3 times a charm!

While the new ranking system by the ASP has always been confusing, and probably will be until the “One World Ranking” format kicks in after the Quiksilver Pro New York, Bobby should know he’s not alone in being ranked lower on the World Rankings as opposed to the World Title Rankings—Adriano De Souza is currently ranked #1 in the world (the World Title world that is) while he’s rated 7th in the One World Rankings.

To try and get my head around the whole ratings deal I downloaded a PDF from the ASP Web site—and I’m still confused. Didn’t surfers like Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, and Joel Parkinson sign off on this whole thing? Anyway, “whoever came up with this dumb fuking idea” is going to get their way come September and if Bobby continues to make strides in his World Title ranking, he’ll be right there with them.

Don't sweat it Bobby, we're just as confused as you. Photo: Checkwood

For what it’s worth, a few of his World Tour peers and some random people in Twitter world agreed with Bobby…

@Bobby805 If you can’t cut it in the Major League you shouldn’t be able to gain points by dropping down to the Minor League. Plain & simple

@Bobby805 I totally agree, something has to change. Your 14th on the World Title Ranking, but 44th on the One world. That’s just wrong

I agree with @Bobby805 appearing in a world tour event should carry more weight than doing 6 3-stars…
