Team USA Update #6 From Peru

PacSun USA Surf Team Struggles through Day Six of the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships

Team USA enters final day with three athletes remaining

Punta Hermosa, Peru – Friday, May 27, 2011- Day Six was a rough one for the PacSun USA Surf Team. Competition was fierce and seven of its ten remaining athletes were eliminated from the contest.

Entering into the Final Day, there are only three USA athletes–one in each of the three divisions: Luke Davis (Boys Under 18), Parker Coffin (Boys Under 16), and Quincy Davis (Girls Under 18). The USA is currently sitting in fifth position. The swell is expected to increase significantly for Saturday’s Finals; and all heats will be run on the Caballeros podium.

“We’re disappointed,” said Ian Cairns, Head Coach of the PacSun USA Surf Team. “Most of the team had good first waves in their heats, but failed to get the backup score they needed. Also, we need to get much more aggressive when it comes to protecting the inside position. Need to make the best of the final day with the athletes we have remaining. Any or all of the three remaining kids have the ability to win their division. But we definitely have our work cut out for us.”
