SNAPPER ROCKS, Queensland/Australia (Wednesday, March 9, 2011) – The final day of competition has been called on for the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover with the Quarterfinals set to commence at 7:30am at the primary venue of Snapper Rocks.
The opening event of the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast has bore witness to some of the most phenomenal surfing ever seen in competition and today’s heavy hitters will battle one another for the top spot heading into the remainder of the season.
“We have good clean two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves running down the bank at Snapper Rocks this morning and we’ve called the Quarterfinals on at 7:30am,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We’ll look to run straight through the Finals this morning to beat the high tide and take advantage of the best conditions available. Good luck to all our remaining competitors.”
Up first this morning will be ASP Dream Tour sophomore Dusty Payne (HAW), 22, up against reigning 10-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 39, in the first Quarterfinal.
