Palos Verdes, Calif. (Feb. 2, 2011)—Today marks the launch of The Greener Blue, a website that provides information and advice on resource conservation and sustainability, and which encourages and enables businesses and consumers to interact and transition to greener modes of efficiencies in day-to-day life. Co-founded by surf industry notables Michael Marckx and Mark Marovich, the site features contributions by surfers, self-sufficiency enthusiasts and scientists.

“We hope to create more convenient ways for brands and people to communicate and coordinate on the road to greenness,” says Marckx. “We want them to gain inspiration and experience, and we sincerely believe our step-by-step approach will allow more people to live in a greener manner.”

The minds behind The Greener Blue believe that a shift in public perception about the necessity of sustainable living presents an opportunity to launch a site dedicated to helping the surfing world move towards this goal.

“As advocates of green living, we want to provide the surf culture with a site that breaks down the different aspects of sustainability, so that brands and surfers can begin to make manageable, proactive lifestyle changes,” says Marovich, who serves as managing partner alongside Marckx. “Even seemingly insignificant lifestyle changes or branded efforts can make a huge difference over time. Ultimately, we would like The Greener Blue to be an all-encompassing source of relevant information for surfing enthusiasts on their way to a greener existence.”

The Greener Blue content is cultivated via a network of surf-focused green bloggers and green-focused surf bloggers, speaking to a broad spectrum of information about sustainability and surfing life, as well as ocean-related environmental issues and events.

Visitors are able to contribute to conversations, adding to individual blogs, featured stories, videos and product reviews, as well as interjecting in social networks contexts. The site invites questions and encourages individuals to add their own blog submissions or their voices to conversations, sharing approaches to enjoying the surf lifestyle while lightening their environmental footprint.

The site will also provide access in the coming months to the best of “green” products from the surf world, including the ability for people to order their favorite surfboards, built greener by top manufacturers around the world.

The Greener Blue partners and sponsors are examples of inspired cooperation and coordination, not branded warfare,” notes Marckx.
