#5. A really cool aspect of the Volcom Pipe Pro is that just about anyone (provided they have some ASP points) can show up and take on the most famous wave in the world. Last year Florida's Nils Schweizer stepped up big time and packed some of the biggest waves of the event on his way to a quarterfinal finish. Photo: Bielmann/SPL

#4. 13-year old Landon McNamara took off on one of the biggest set waves of the day and got demolished. He smashed his face on the reef and broke his board in the process. His dad, Liam, was watching from the third floor of the Volcom house and sprinted down to the beach to see if his son was okay. Despite a cut on his face, Landon grabbed another board and redeemed himself with a beautiful barrel. Landon didn’t have much to say except that the cut on his forehead was starting to sting. #3. JOB, Stinky, Jamie O...whatever you call him, the dude lives and breathes Pipeline. This years field is going to have their hands full with the likes of Jamie O, John Florence, and Bruce Irons. Photo: Noyle

#2. If there's a more beautiful, iconic, and inspiring venue in pro surfing than Pipeline we've yet to see it. Photo: Bielmann/SPL

#1. Pitting power against power, North Shore lifeguard and Volcom team rider charges off the bottom on day 1 of the 2010 Volcom Pipeline Pro. His shaper, Pat Mulhern from WRV, recently contacted us to get a big blown up print of this. It's probably covered in foam dust by now, but there's no way the impact of the image can be toned down. For his efforts, Wassel was awarded the "Todd Chesser Sportsmanship Award" which is given to the hardest charging surfer of the event. Photo: Bielmann/SPL
