HIC Pro Holding Period Starts Thursday

Haleiwa, HAWAII – (October 27, 2010) — The 14-day holding period for the 3-day HIC Pro, presented by Vans, will begin tomorrow, Thursday, October 28, at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. Organizers will make the call at 7am each morning and will post the event status on the live website.
The immediate forecast is for head-high waves and strong trade winds tomorrow, however word of advisory level high surf early next week has excitement levels running high.
The HIC Pro features 112 surfers from seven nations including Japan, Brazil, Venezuela and Australia. The bulk of competitors are from Hawaii and the US, with a strong gathering of young talent including Clay Marzo, Kiron Jabour and Keanu Asing. Joining them will be seasoned Sunset competitors Pancho Sullivan – a multiple champion of the event when it was previously called the XCel Pro; Myles Padaca; Joel Centeio; and defending champion Hank Gaskell.
The HIC Pro will signal the start of Hawaii’s $1.1 million surf season. The complete holding period for the event is October 28 through November 10. The HIC Pro will be immediately followed by the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series, November 12 through December 20.
As the final event of the ASP Hawaii regional tour, the HIC Pro presents the last opportunity for local surfers to qualify to compete against the world’s highest rated surfers at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
MORNING EVENT ALERTS WILL BE ISSUED ON DAYS OF COMPETITION ONLY
The HIC Pro and Vans Triple Crown round out the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, crowning the regional and world champions respectively by the end of the year. The 2011 ASP tour then commences in Hawaii with events in January and February to close out the Hawaiian winter.
