2:55pm. Ed Note: The sprain appears to be minor, here’s what O’Neill’s Garth Tarlow had to say to the ASP, “Jordy rolled his ankle last night at a charity event in Santa Cruz. He’s withdrawn from the O’Neill Cold Water Classic to prevent further injury to his ankle. The injury is not a bad one, and the official diagnosis is a minor ankle sprain. We just want to be sure that he’s 100% healed for Puerto Rico.”

We wish Jordy the best of luck and a speedy recovery!

We started getting reports that current ASP World Tour #2 ranked surfer Jordy Smith rolled his ankle playing dodge ball yesterday evening, and then an update on his Twitter account confirmed: “Just rolled my ankle playing dodge ball,,, think I’m out of this comp [O'Neill Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz]…” No word on how bad it is, but we hope it’s nowhere near as serious as Parko’s ankle tweak last year, which effectively snuffed out his world title hopes.

We’re not sure how serious it is, but it’s obviously not a good sign for his world title hopes although he has exactly eight days to recover. More updates as they become available…
