Things got going today in Portugal for the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Portugal. With Supertubos going Richter (see below) the ladies competed at Ligado not too far away from Supertubos.

Carissa Moore and Sally Fitzgibbons set the contest ablaze by both dropping 9′s and setting the bar for the rest of the women. They actually face off against each other in the quarters when that gets going, which will be a rematch of this year’s US Open final. If it’s run in any kind of swell that Portugal will be getting in the next few days, expect to see a hard-fought battle between these two.

Coco Ho also opened her campaign to defend her Rip Curl Pro Portugal title today in sound fashion. Behind Carissa and Sally’s two highest heat totals a piece, Coco’s 15.46 was fifth best of the day. Look for Coco to defend that title with all she’s got.

With the storm about to bear down on Portugal, things look bleak for running the next few days, but getting the backend of this swell once it cleans up is a good possibility. Stay tuned to transworldsurf.com for full coverage from Portugal.
