2010 ESA Easterns Officially Underway

2010 ESA Easterns

Tuesday morning things finally got cooking for the 2010 ESA Easterns. As the scaffolding was being constructed on the sand double beach heats for the adult divisions were taking place in the overhead, still somewhat sloppy surf.

The morning was a bit chaotic, but after 43 years the ESA thrives on this East Coast chaos, fitting perfectly with the sporadic beachie peaks that ran off the famed Cape Hatteras groin. As the day progressed though the surf organized itself more and more, allowing for a few nice lines, and even an occasional drainer or two for those lucky to be in the right spot at the right time.

Champs are made in Hatteras in any and all conditions. Hurricane surf down here tends to bring out the best from surfers and as ESA Executive Director Debbie Hodges put it, “Average surfers who are hungry for a title tend to become great surfers in this kind of stuff down here.”

Heats ran well past 5 p.m. to make up for the lost time of the last two uncontestable days. In doing so a few finals were laid out and ready to be settled on Wednesday. Check out the finals set up for Wednesday below as well as the schedule, and stay tuned as adult champs begin to get crowned in Hatteras tomorrow. Head to surfesa.org for for more.
