MIAMI, Sept 8 (Reuters) – Tropical Storm Igor formed over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday, on a path that was expected to take it south of the Cape Verde islands by Thursday.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Igor, the ninth named storm of the 2010 Atlantic huurricane season, was packing top sustained winds near 40 miles (65 km) per hour and moving slowly west at eight miles (13 km) per hour.
